Weetangera Bakery
(Weetangera ACT)

The search for Canberraā€™s best šŸ„§ was well and truly under way and after leaving Dobinsons at Gungahlin, I made my way out to the Canberra suberb of Weetangera to visit the Weetangera Bakery.

Weetangera Bakery is located in a small shopping complex in Weetangera Place. It was there I met a absolute legend named George.

The bakery has been in the family name for over 35 years with Georgeā€™s father, Tony first opening the place back in 1991. Then in 2009 George took over after Tony retired, but his mother Angela stayed on and still works here in the bakery to this day.

The family is originally from Greece and when you step inside the bakery there are many reminders of there former homeland. George describes his family as survivers and said that over the years they have dabbled in nearly every employment profession known to man. I could have chatted to George for hours but sadly I needed to get a wriggle on and choose a šŸ„§.

Old school bakery with a old school menu, so with that in mind I went straight for the curry mince. George mentioned it was one of his most popular šŸ„§ā€™s in the store.

šŸ„§ THE REVIEW šŸ„§

1. Value for Money – $4.70 or $5 with sauce !!!! This is a bloody cheap šŸ„§. Yes it wasnā€™t the biggest of šŸ„§ā€™s but it was still sensational value at that price. Cheap, Cheap, Cheap !!! 10/10

2. Meat Ratio – Look it was full but the šŸ„§ had dipped in the middle a fraction. There was also a couple of small air pockets here and there. At $4.70 you wouldnā€™t have too much to complain about. 9/10

3. Flavour – The curry flavour was only mild and in my opinion could have been a little stronger. While the mince was slightly over cooked and tasted a little on the dry side. Basic curry flavour, tasted ok,
but nothing to get super excited about 5/10

4. Pastry – Once again another šŸ„§ where the pastry was a little hit and miss. The colour was nice and golden, while the šŸ„§ uniform was a little howā€™s your father and out slightly out of shape. The stability was great and the šŸ„§ held firm to the last bite. While the top and bottom bakes were statisfactoy, both bake thicknesses were too thick . The overall pastry flavor was ok. 5.5/10

5. Serving Temperature – Could have been a little warmer, but nothing major to worry about. 8/10

Overall Rating
šŸ„§šŸ„§ 37.5/50 šŸ„§šŸ„§

During my review George said ā€œI make reasonable products at reasonable pricesā€ and I couldnā€™t agree with him more. This was a reasonable šŸ„§ and one I could easily have again. The flavor was ok, the curry mix could have been a little more evident and as mentioned earlier the flavour was a little dry. The pasty was satisfactory, with a few things to work on here and there. At $4.70 its crazy cheap and George prides himself on having affordable prices for his customers. Overall a solid šŸ„§ and one thatā€™s 100% worth trying. Add this little bakery to your list. This is you classic old school bakery. You wonā€™t find fancy or gourmet here just products made with love and pricing thatā€™s more than affordable.

A massive thanks to George and his mum Angela for having me in. George is one of the kindest, most down to earth gentlemen Iā€™ve met. His bakery is simple but it works. Heā€™s extremely passionate about keeping his prices down and looking after his local community. It was a absolute pleasure chatting to this incredible man and itā€™s reviews like this that makes what i do so fulfilling. All the best mate, stay in touch.
