2025 Pyney’s 🥧 Reviews
Review No 63
Waterview Bakery
(Paynesville VIC)

June 2025

It was so awesome to spend some time with Shaun and Donna at Warragul. The best part about travelling is the people you meet. I met these two amazing people by chance at Dundee Beach a couple of years and remained close friends ever since. Sadly it was time to say goodbye and continue on with my journey. I made my way further east down to the Lake Entrance area.

This whole area was a place I’d never been to, so I was keen to explore and see what this place has to offer. Another reason for my visit was to get down to the nearby town of Paynesville.

Lake Entrance to Paynesville is a short 3/4 hour drive and I was on my way to met Jo and her team from the Waterview Bakery Paynesville. Paynesville is the region’s boating capital. Anglers, windsurfers, jet skiers, and water skiers flock to the town to take to the water. There is also a epic Koala trail on Raymond Island which is a must see, but before search for Koalas i needed to smash some 🥧’s
at the bakery.

The bakery itself is located on the Esplanade and open 7 days a week. Jo has had this place for 10 years and has totally transformed the place. Jo is no stranger to the industry, she’s been baking for over 30 plus years years and is continuously striving for excellence. Whilst only relatively small the bakery flows really well, with a small seating area out the front and the cabinets full with stunning products that will have your mouth watering. As always after getting the tour and meeting the staff it was time to get started.

Jo has assembled a great little line up on the menu, it contains all the usual bakery favourites with some gourmet flavours in the mix. They all looked and tasted amazing, but I really wanted to try Jo’s award winning “Tradie” 🥧. This 🥧 won a gold medal in 2024 and backed it up with another gold medal at the recent Official Aussie Pie Competition.

🥧 THE REVIEW 🥧

1. Value for Money – $8.20 for this 🥧 was priced very well in my opinion. The 🥧 weighed in around 260 grams which is more than the industry standard. Overall great value for money. 8.5/10

2. Meat/Fill Ratio – Totall jammed packed !!! No more could have been squeezed into this bad boy. 10/10

3. Flavour – Absolutly fantastic !!! The flavour in this 🥧 was devine. Slow cooked chunky steak, caramelized onion, mushrooms and dianne sauce. The combination of ingredients worked a treat and I loved the dianne sauce. Outstanding flavour !!! 10/10

4. Pastry – The overall standard of this pastry was almost perfect. In fact the only negative was the bottom bake was a smidge too thick, apart from that everything else was terrific. The pastry had a beautiful taste to it particularly the top bake. Color, shape, shrinkage, stability and top bake were all fantasic. Excellent job team, nothing more to report. 9.5/10

5. Serving Temperature – Perfect serving temp. No issues at all. 10/10

Overall Rating
🥧🥧 48/50 🥧🥧

This gold medel winning 🥧 was sensational. It was close to the perfect 🥧 as you could get. The flavour in this 🥧 was the best part by far. The flavour was different, unique but highly effective. The price point was very good, the 🥧 was full and the pastry was excellent. Jo made this 🥧 by complete accident a couple of years ago, it was a huge hit and it’s now on the menu permanently. Great work Jo, I bloody loved this 🥧 and cannot wait to get back and smash another one.

Jo a huge thanks to you and your team for having me in. You have this place absolutely firing and it’s through a lot of hard work and dedication. Even after all these years your passion for perfection is very infectious. Congrats on the gold medal at the recent Official Great Aussie Pie Competition, you and your 🥧 rock.

Add this epic bakery to your travel plans and make the sort detour off the highway. The award winning bakery is something else and well worth the visit.

Lake Entrance and Paynesville are 100% worth checking out. This whole area is stunning and there is so much to see and do. From what I’ve been told summer time here can get out of control, so you might wanna pick a quieter time to visit. The Raymond Island Koala trail was so good and we saw so many koalas from a relatively close distance. Add this experience to your list as well.

As always thanks for the ongoing support and keep supporting 🇦🇺 bakeries and don’t forget to invite all your friends to the page.
