Watch Your Fingers Patisserie
(Constitution Hill NSW)
After leaving Frida’s Pies in Beverly Hills I made my way out to Constitution Hill which is a suburb out near Parramatta in Western Sydney. I was catching up with my little mate Antonio from Only Pie’s who gave me a hot tip on a epic joint which he practically calls his local. The place I was referring to was Watch your fingers Pâtisserie
As mentioned Watch Your Fingers Patisserie is located at 5 Emma Crescent Constitution Hill and is owned by a awesome couple by the name of Marion and Nigel. Both have been in the food game for many years and opened up this thriving place a tick over 10 years ago.
This star duo have pastry chefed all the world and back in 2012 Marion won the the prestigious “London High Tea Award” I’m not quite sure how that works, but anything involves the word London and High Tea sounds very fancy.
Upon entry, the patisserie is quite small and as you can appreciate it’s just the two of them working here and this place can get unbelievably busy so be patient. Open Wednesday through to Sunday, every item you see in the cabinets is made from scratch and the variety is epic.
Speaking of variety, my eyes started to wander over to the 🥧 warmer which had over 13 plus awesome flavours to choose from. Some of these flavours looked and smelt sensational. Antonio went first and chose with the “Chicken Leek & Mushroom” but I was desperate to get my hands on the extremely popular “ Beef, Brie and Dijon mustard” This is such an unusual combination of ingredients and I could not wait to get cracking.
🥧 THE REVIEW 🥧
1. Value for Money – $7.00 is tremendous value for this 🥧, considering the time it takes to hand crimp the pastry edges. Plus the 🥧 weighed in at 280 grams, which is very healthy and well above industry standard 10/10
2. Meat/Fill Ratio – This bad boy was full !!! 10/10
3. Flavour – Slow cooked shredded beef, melted brie cheese then added dijon mustard sauce. This flavour was very unique and different, but highly effective. The beef was tasted devine and was cooked beautifully. I’m not a huge fan of brie cheese in general, but in this case it was the perfect amount and blended in great with dijon mustard. Only negative, I would have added a smidge more mustard, but that’s a personal choice. Great job on this flavour guys. 8.5/10
4. Pastry – To be honest this pastry was almost perfect. The color caught my attention straight away as did the hand crimped edges it looked a treat. The shape, shrinkage, plus both top and bottom bakes all were terrific. The bake thicknesses were also
fantastic particularly the bottom. Only negative was the aluminum tin made the whole bottom a little soft and moist. In saying that the stability was great good and the 🥧 held together right till the last bite. Great job guys, particularly the presentation of this pastry. 9/10
5. Serving Temperature – A smidge hot but nothing to get to excited about 9.5/10
Overall Rating
🥧🥧 47/50 🥧🥧
This was an outstanding 🥧 and it was that good I had two of them. The color of all the 🥧’s in the warmer will get you hooked straight away, they are golden and incredibly inviting. The different combination of ingredients worked really well and definitely not out of place. $7 was dirt cheap considering the size and weight and the 🥧 and it was bursting full. Overall the team has done a sterling job with this one and I cannot rate it highly enough.
This patisserie is a little belter and totally worth visiting. Please be mindful the patisserie is only open five days a week and as it’s only the two of them in here and all the products do sell very quickly.
A huge thanks to Nigel and Marion for having us in. These guys are super busy and yet they were so accommodating and happy to share their 🥧 journey with me. These guys are quality operators and quality pastry chefs and there products are simply stunning. All the best you to legends and now I know where this place is, I will 100% be back. Lastly to Antonio you bloody champion thanks for teeing up this visit.
As always thanks for the ongoing support and keep supporting 🇦🇺 bakeries and don’t forget to invite all your friends and family to the page.
