Once again, this next review was totally at the blue and came about from a tip from a local down at the beach. Old mate told be to jump straight in the car after my swim and head around the corner to the Tuross Butchery. He said they make a wicked mint, rosemary and steak 🥧. So after a quick swim, I jumped in the car and made a bee line for the butcher shop.

Tuross Butchery is located at Shop 4 Tuross Shopping Centre Evans Road, Tuross Head. It was here I met the 🥧 master, Mariah. The shop is own by a ripping fella named Josh, the OG 🥧 master who started making 🥧’s in the bakery 15 years ago. Then this tragic Roosters supporter took off his Rooster sombrero hat and handed the 🥧 baton over to Mariah. For the last 8 years Mariah has been toiling away and cresting new flavours for her satisfied customers.

The shop itself has an awesome cabinet display, one which will have you buying more than you originally wanted. A good example of this is me, I went in for a 🥧 and walked out with snags, crumbed chicken and rump steak. Mariah was there on her own so we had to get cracking and smash a few 🥧’s

Another butcher shop with a great selection of flavours available. In fact there is 11 flavours on offer and they all looked fantastic. Old mate at the beach mentioned I should give the “Mint, Rosemary & Steak” a crack. In the past I’ve had many “Lamb, Mint and Rosemary” 🥧’s but never a steak one, so I was keen to give this one a go.

🥧 THE REVIEW 🥧

1. Value for Money – It wasn’t the biggest of 🥧’s but $6.50 was still great value. It was still a satisfactory size and weighed in at industry standard. For a butcher shop this price was more then acceptable. 9/10

2. Meat/Fill Ratio – It was nearly full, with only a few gaps here and there to fill. 9/10

3 Flavour – This was easily the best part of the 🥧 in my humble opinion. The flavour was excellent and it lasted right to the very last bite. The meat was incredibly tender, and the mint and rosemary were a perfectly balanced amount. It’s very easy to add to much mint or rosemary to the flavour, but Mariah absolutely nailed it. Only issue the gravy sauce was runny which made eating this bad boy a little tricky. In terms of the flavour it was really nice, well done. 8/10

4. Pastry – This was a tough one to score, as I was told by a couple of people the best way to smash these 🥧’s is upside down. The bottom was soft and this was due to sitting in the aluminum foil tin. The color was great as was the shape and shrinkage. The top bake was excellent as was it’s thickness, but it was the bottom bake and stability that was a little bit how you going. I’m not gunna lie, eating this 🥧 can be a little tricky but you are pre-warned. Mine wasn’t too bad and the pastry flavour was really good. Yes a few things to work on but nothing major. 6/10

5. Serving Temperature – Perfect !!! No issues. 10/10

Mariah for a non baker you have done a wonderful job with this 🥧. Yes, there are a couple of minor things to tweak (mainly the bottom bake and stability) but apart from that you have created an awesome flavoured 🥧. As already mentioned the flavour for me was easily my favourite and the combination of ingredients work to treat. $6.50 is cheap and the 🥧 was nearly full. I think it is bloody awesome your having a crack making these 🥧’s and coming up with a sensational range of flavours. The small community of Tuross Head are extremely lucky to have you giving them their daily 🥧 fix. Well done, I loved this 🥧 and would have zero hesitation having another one or recommending it to fellow 🥧 lovers.

This is one area you need to visit especially on a nice day. The beaches, golf course, and this butcher shop are 100% worth checking out. The VB snags were easily my favourite, followed by the vegemite ones !!! The rump steak was also devine.

Mariah you are a superstar and so are your 🥧’s. Thank you so much for having me in and allowing me to review your 🥧’s and share your 🥧 journey. It’s absolutely outstanding that more and more butcher shops are making and selling 🥧’s and yours are top notch. It’s a shame I didn’t get to meet Josh, but don’t worry I’m going to return to this epic part of the country and smash your epic 🥧’s once again. Stay safe guys.
