This next review was a bakery i’d driven past many of times before, but actually didn’t realize they sold 🥧’s. I originally thought that The Flute Bakery was a patisserie that specialized in exotic cakes and fine deserts. So a few weeks ago, I popped in and checked the joint out first hand. I also soon realized that this bakery had recently been purchased by Muhammed the same legend that was the owner of Cedar Husk Bakery/Cafe. Cedar Husk was reviewed in mid 2024 and the products there were fantastic.
The Flute Bakery is located at 8 Barrier Street Fyswick Canberra and has been in operation for 24 years. Muhammed took over in Easter this year and the bakery is open 6 days a week and employs 10 plus staff.
🥧’s are not the main draw card here, but the cabinets are totally full with some of the best cakes, pastries, and sweet treats you will ever see. The attention to detail in some of these products is incredible and I was lucky to see the bakers in action on the day of my visit. The bakery itself has plenty sesting inside and out to sit and enjoy. The look of all these sweet treats got me drooling so I made my way over to the 🥧 warmer to avoid any further distraction.
This weeks decision was quite simple. There are only two flavours to choose from here “Beef & Red Wine” or “Chicken Leek & Tarragon” and I went with the later. This particular flavour is something I’ve not had for quite some time and I couldn’t wait to give it this one a crack.
🥧 THE REVIEW 🥧
1. Value for Money – $7.50 is starting to creep up there for a 🥧 of this size. The oval shape was more than acceptable in diameter, but the depth was only small. This was something i discussed with Muhammed and it’s also a easy fix, invest in deeper baking tins. Overall good value at $7.50 7.5/10
2. Meat/Fill Ratio – Despite the depth of the tins this 🥧was 95% full with only a few small pockets here and there that could have been filled. 9.5/10
3. Flavour – The team have done a wonderful job with the flavour of this 🥧. The chicken pieces were a decent size and tasted great. The tarragon wasn’t overpowering and really great gave this pie some extra flavour. Nothing fancy just a really good chicken and leek flavoured 🥧 we’ll done team. 8/10
4. Pastry – The overall pastry of this 🥧 was pretty good, the highlight was the beautiful buttery taste. The shape, colour and stability were all satisfactory. There was a little bit of shrinkage on one side of the product and both bakes were a little bit underdone. A couple things to work on, but nothing that major and nothing that can’t be fixed. 7/10
5. Serving Temperature – Perfect serving temp !!! 10/10

Overall this was a good product and one I would certainly have again no questions asked. As mentioned above, this bakery specializes in cakes and other fine sweet treats and 🥧’s are a extra add-on. So with that in mind this was a fine tasting 🥧. A couple of things to work on here and there, but nothing that major. For me, the flavour was really good and a clear stand out, the added tarragon was a game changer. The pastry had a easy pass mark and you will love the texture of the pastry. For a place that doesn’t specialize in 🥧’s I think they’ve done a pretty good job with this one. Well done team.
100% add this place joint to your bakery list. It’s easy to find, has ample parking and a great place to relax, enjoy great food and meet friends.
Muhammed is a absolute gentlemen and as always is extremely accommodating. When I first found out he had taken over this place, I couldn’t wait to line up a review and catch up with him again. Muhammed is always looking to improve and seek feedback and I admire that. You wouldn’t meet a more astute or hard working businessman than this bloke. The hours he puts in to all his businesses is phenomenal and on top of that he’s a fantastic fella. Once again, great to see you legend, have a fantastic new year and all the best with the new bub on the way.
