After dabbling in making & baking 🥧’s at the Royal Easter Show, it was time again to hit the road and do what I do best and that’s reviewing 🥧’s and meeting the people.

I lined up a review at a place I’ve been trying to get into since I started this gig !!!! The destination was only a short 40min drive from my home and I could smell the 🥧’s from my joint.

The destination was Forrest Glen and the bakery was the Fabulous Forest Glen Bakery. This place has been around for many many years, but current owners Paul and Barbara have had this place for a tad over 20 years !!! During this time have built this place into a crazy busy 🥧 factory, employing almost 20 staff.

Paul is a second generation baker and has passed his expert knowledge onto his daughter Morgan who now runs the show !!! Paul has been baking almost his entire life and started out as a teenager at Bribie Island, then heading north to Cairns. After several years the opportunity came up to move back to the Sunshine Coast and eventually buy the bakery.

Paul physically cannot leave the place, he’s retired and came back so many times, officially giving him for comebacks than John Farnham. Don’t worry Paul, I’ve seen your daughter Morgan in action and she runs a tight ship. I was watching all these 🥧’s come out of the oven and it was finally time to get this review under way.

This weeks 🥧 of choice was a easily selection !!!! Everyone knows Chunky Steak & Pepper is one of my all time fav’s. After perusing the board, Chunky Steak & Pepper was on the 🥧 list, and I was going to be all over it like a kid in a lolly shop. However this CS&P 🥧 had a slight twist to it !!!! it was CS&P 🥧 with veggies !!! Yep veggies who would have thought. A few little veggies wasn’t going to derail this review.

🥧🥧🥧 THE REVIEW 🥧🥧🥧

1. Value for Money – At $6.50 this represented great value. The 🥧was oval shaped like a AFL field and almost as big as one. As 🥧’s go this was a slightly bigger than your tradition round one and great value. 8.5/10
2. Meat Ratio – Full, Full and Full !!!! Some parts were bursting out the top. This one was easy to score. 10/10
3. Meat Flavour – Loved it !!! I’m not big on the veggies, but the veggies added more flavor to this 🥧. The steak chunks were decent and plentiful. The gravy sauce was rich and the peppercorns were perfect. This 🥧 was flavored to the MAX !! 10/10
4. Pastry – Terrific !!! The top was golden, flakey and crispy. The base was a little soft but held strong. This was a heavy 🥧 and the base was under extreme pressure to perform and it did !!! 9/10
5. Temperature – Absolutely perfect !!! Paul walked away for a moment and this 🥧 was gone in a matter on mins !!! There’s nothing better than hooking into a 🥧 that’s a perfect temp !!! It’s the best 10/10

This non veggie loving 🥧 reviewer, absolutely loved this 🥧. The veggies were the right mix as was the peppercorns !!!! Everything about this 🥧 was first class and I’d easily go back for seconds. I’ve had lots and and mean lots of CS&P 🥧’s but the added veggies was a master stroke. The price tag of $6.50 is easily justified too.

This bakery is a must STOP !!! It’s literally 2mins off the Bruce Hwy and easy to find. Best part, it’s open 7 days from 5am !!!! This place is stupid, crazy, insanely busy. It’s normal to see people queued up waiting for 🥧’s and other goodies. I’ve been stopping in at this joint for years and I’ve never left disappointed.

The Forrest Glen area has totally transformed over the years, from a sleepy village to a bustling community filled with the a variety of little shops, eateries and coffee shops. To all the travelers out there this little community is well worth popping in for a look.

To Paul, Barbara and Morgan thanks for taking me back stage and allowing me to share your story. To survive and thrive after 20 odd years in business is astonishing, but not surprising considering all the blood sweat and tears you and your team have pumped into this place. You guys deserve every success that comes your way. Also I need to thank you guys for your huge generosity and participation in Pyney’s Pie Day.
