The Bredbo Pie Shop

After consuming a few quiet ales up at the pub, it was time to take the short stroll down the road to my next review. Bredbo is a small town but thankfully it has two businesses a small community needs to survive and that’s a pub and a 🥧 shop and the 🥧 shop was exactly where I was headed to.
The Bredbo Pie Shop is located on the Monaro Hwy in Bredbo itself. Despite a few name changes here and there the place has been operating many years with current owner Olivia at the helm for the past 5 of them. Olivia’s 🥧 journey is quite remarkable. The Bredbo 🥧 shop was Olivia’s very first job after leaving high school and she’s never left. Then after seven years, the opportunity come up for her to purchase this business with her mum Dana and she hasn’t looked back.
Open 7 days a week and employing 13 plus staff this incredible young lady has taken this 🥧 shop to new and amazing heights. The products on display looked fantastic and there is a great assortment of locally made items than can also be purchased here.
Olivia has created a terrific selection of 🥧’s on the menu including her famous rabbit 🥧. Sadly purchasing rabbit meat has been difficult and quite expensive to source of late and sadly wasn’t on the menu the day of my visit. That didn’t concern me one bit as my second selection was in the 🥧 warmer ready to go. I chose the “Curry Steak. It’s been ages since I’ve reviewed one of these flavored 🥧’s and I couldn’t wait to get started.
🥧 THE REVIEW 🥧
1. Value for Money – $7.50 is certainly on the high scale for a “steak curry” but this was a decent sized 🥧 in depth and diameter. Plus the 🥧 contained a decent amount of meat chunks as well. Overall fairly well priced 8/10
2. Meat/Fill Ratio – About 80% full with still a little room just under the lid that could have been filled. Might have been a air pocket, but still photos will show a clear gap between the meat and lid. 8/10
3. Flavour – The flavour was superb !!! There was a decent amount of beef in this 🥧 and the curry flavour was spot on. Having been slow cooked the meat was so tender and the curry flavour had soaked right through. Also the hotness of the curry won’t scare the punters away. Great job team, terrific flavour. 8.5/10
4. Pastry – Let’s start on the bakes and bake thicknesses, they were absolutely spot on perfect. Both the top and bottom of this 🥧 was baked right through and as said the thickness was spot on. This was so pleasing to see and can take some time to get right. The stability was rock solid and the pastry flavour was also more than acceptable. The color was a little dark and there was some evidence of spillage on the outside walls. This can be caused by no air holes or ventilation on the roof of the 🥧 and this problem could be a easy fix. Overall a very solid pasty. 8/10
5. Serving Temperature – Excellent serving temp. Straight out of the oven into the mouth. 10/10

This was a very consistent product and each category score reflects that. The flavour for me was the best part and while the curry had a bit of sting to it, it wasn’t enough to put you off or deter you. This was a very easy to eat curry flavoured 🥧. While creeping up there in price, $7.50 was still more than affordable. It was pleasing to see both bakes and bake thicknesses on the money, great work Olivia. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed eating this 🥧 and would have no hesitation having another one.
Olivia your a absolute super star. What you have achieved in your short working life is not only incredible it’s very inspiring to other young women. The responsibilities of having your own business is challenging for everyone at the best of times, but to see what are doing is at such a young age is remarkable. Thank you so much for having me in. This was truly one review, that will remember for a long time.
Bredbo is a great little down that you don’t wanna miss. Too often travelers will go straight through this place on their way down to the snow without even stopping. My last two reviews are perfect reasons why you need to stop in and explore a bit. The 🥧 shop and the pub are 100% worth stopping in and you won’t be dissapointed.
