Rolling Pin Pies & Cakes

After getting to Torquay, the plan was to stay here for about a week and explore the region. If I can give you one tip stay as long as you can, this place has got so much to see and do.
About 25km from Geelong
is the town of Ocean Grove, a popular surf town surrounded by renowned wineries, pristine beaches and golf courses. While I was down here I wanted to visit one of Australia’s premier bakeries.
Rolling Pin Pies and Cakes is located in Park Lane is one of 5 stores scattered around the area. The original store has been around for many years and this highly successful business is a real family affair. Geoff and Susie took over this place back in 1999 with the help of daughters Kristie and Stacey. Then some time later son in-laws Nathan and Todd joined the family business.
The business now has 5 stores, employing a whopping 90 plus staff and most locations are open 7 days a week. When it comes to trade shows and national pie competitions this place has won just about everything. Across various competitions the major awards include best pie 2020, best pie 2021, best pie 2022 and best pie in 2024. The 2022 🇦🇺 best 🥧 award caused quite a stir as the winning 🥧 was a “Creamy Mushroom & Truffle”. This was an absolutely stunning 🥧 and a very worthy winner.
The Ocean Grove store has one of the best cabinet displays I’ve seen and one of the smallest work areas too. The cabinets are littered with fabulous products ranging from old school goodies to a great range of decorative cakes. There’s also a sensational display of 🥧’s to view that also doubles as a cold room. I’ve never seen anything like it, it’s quite unique. After looking at all these amazing 🥧’s I couldn’t wait to get started.
The flavours and variety here are off the charts. Flavours that include – surf & turf, prawn laksa, mushroom and truffle just to name a few. I’ve been very fortunate to have tried all these flavours before. For this review, I decided to try their “Chunky Beef, Bacon and Cheese” This flavour won best gournet 🥧 back in 2023 and looked amazing.
🥧 THE REVIEW 🥧
1. Value for Money – $8.70 is up on the high scale, but this 🥧 weighed in at a tick over 280g and was a very healthy size in both depth and diameter and was totally full. In my opinion, given the weight of this thing, it was priced very well. 8.5/10
2. Meat/Fill Ratio – Jammed packed and almost bursting out at the seams 10/10
3. Flavour – I know it’s a massive call, but I’m going to declare that this was the best beef cheese and bacon flavoured 🥧 I’ve ever had. Everything about it was fantastic, the slow cooked chunky steak and mince was so tender it literally melted in your mouth. I loved the fact the 3 cheeses, cheddar, mozzarella and parmesan. did not overpower the meat and was the perfect amount. Then the bacon added more flavour. Nothing more to say, except the team have done a great job on this flavour. 10/10
4. Pastry – This pastry, in fact, all there pastries are wonderful. The bakes and bake thicknesses were all absolutely perfect. The golden color, shape and shrinkage couldn’t be folded, and the stability was on point. The pastry flavour was outstanding, it tasted devine. Great job team great pastry 10/10
5. Serving Temperature – Perfect serving temp. No issues at all. 10/10

This is close to the perfect 🥧 as you can get, it was bloody awesome. As mentioned above this was the best steak/mince, cheese and bacon 🥧 I’ve ever sampled. The flavour and pastry oozed class and every bite got better and better. I particularly enjoyed the combination of the three cheeses you could taste each and everyone of them. The 🥧 was completely full and while the $8.70 price tag was great value it wasn’t exceptional value to be to scored a 10. Great job team you’ve completely nailed this. Also if you haven’t tried the truffle and laksa 🥧’s your missing out, these are epic flavours.
This bakery is a must stop in for any 🥧 lover particularly those who love exotic flavours. The best part is if you cannot get to the Ocean Grove store there are 5 other locations. Ocean Grove is a stunning area and it’s 100% worth the day driving and exploring.
To the entire Rolling Pin team a huge thank you for having me in. This place has been a bucket list visit for me since I started 🥧 journey and it didn’t disappoint. These major 🥧 awards don’t get handed out willy-nilly. Rolling Pin is a huge operation that’s been built on hard work, time and dedication. Despite winning nearly every awards under the sun the team is consistently striving to improve, create new exciting products and be the best and that’s very special.
