2025 Pyney’s 🥧 Reviews
Review No 27
Pinjarra Bakery
(Pinjarra WA)

Feb 2025

I only had a few days left in WA, so my daughter decided to take me for a little road trip down to the scenic Margaret River. This was a place I’d heard so much about and was super keen to explore the area in the short time I had left. Of course no road trip wouldn’t be complete without a visit to a local bakery. About a hour and a bit south of Perth is the famous Pinjarra Bakery

Owner Larry opened the original Pinjarra store way back 1997. Larry is a real entrepreneur you name he’s done it and owned it. His first job was panel beating since then he’s owned fish and chip shops, video stores plus much much more. In and around 1997 Larry turned to 🥧 making and fast forward to current day and Pinjarra Bakery has 4 locations and is considered one of WA biggest and most well known bakeries.

The day of my visit I was greeted by team leader Shelly, what a legend she is. It was pumping busy and yet she was happy to show me around the place, introduce me to the staff and as expected they made me feel so welcome.

The inside area is massive, the cabinet display is one of the biggest I’ve seen and the indoor seating area is warm and inviting. The cabinets were full to the brim with every possible bakery product known to man, my eyes couldn’t sit still. After getting the full tour it was time to get down to business.

The menu board as you would expect was filled with stacks and stacks of options. Choosing a 🥧 to review was going to be extremely difficult as everywhere I looked my eyes lit up. As we were heading down to wine country, I thought about the “Red Wine & Garlic Beef” but a fella out the front told me to give the “gourmet steak and mushroom” 🥧 a go. He said the flavour was sensational and this flavour was a must try.

🥧 THE REVIEW 🥧

1. Value for Money – $9.80 yes 100% it’s up there in price. Yes it was a decent sized 🥧, yes it was full but at almost $10 it’s well and truly on the high side for a 🥧 of this flavour. 6.5/10

2. Meat/Fill Ratio – Totally full. 10/10

3. Flavour – The flavour in this 🥧 couldn’t be faulted !! The threaded steak was beautifuly baked, the mushrooms were fantastic and the gravy sauce tasted wonderful and really added to the overall flavour. To be honest not much wrong with this flavour. Excellent job. 8.5/10

4. Pastry – Similar story to the last few reviews the bottom bake and thickness needed work. The color, shape, shrinkage and stability were all on the money. The pastry had a really good flavour which was there right to the last bite. Only negative was the bottom bake was a smidge under done and slightly too thick and the pics will clearly show this. Overall the pastry was more than acceptable, with only a couple minor points to work on. 8/10

5. Serving Temperature – Excellent serving temp. Straight out of the oven into the mouth. 10/10

Overall Rating
🥧🥧 43/50 🥧🥧

This was actually a really nice 🥧 and one I would have again no dramas at all. The flavour for me was the clear highlight. The meat was well baked, the mushrooms were the exact amount and the gravy sauce was sensational. Pastry was also more than satisfactory with only bottom bake and thickness that needed work. The value for money for me was a hard one to score. I still think $10 is very reasonable for any 🥧 considering the price of a Macca’s or a Dirty Bird burger, but compared to other steak and mushroom 🥧’s of similar standard the $9.80 price tag is seriously up there. Overall the product itself was great and I’m so glad I selected this particular flavour.

This bakery is a WA icon and the people that flock to this bakery daily is phenomenal. So if your heading down to Margaret River do yourself a favour and pop into this joint.

A massive thanks to the entire team at Pinjarra Bakery for allowing me to share their incredible 🥧 journey. What Larry and the family has achieved is quite remarkable. This is a series operation that now employs over 100 staff and forever growing. With no 🥧 experience what so ever Larry has taken this once small operation to the next level. It was a dam shame I didn’t get to meet this legend of our industry, it simply means I’ve gotta go back again and that’s a certain.
