Pie and Pastry Paradise
After going 🥧less in Hawaii for the past 2 weeks, it’s great to be back on home soil and eating some REAL 🥧’s. While the bakeries we visited were all very good and quite unique, they don’t stand up to the classic 🇦🇺 bakery and they don’t serve up our classic meat 🥧.
One place that does dish up good 🥧‘s is Pie And Pastry Paradise located in Hervey Bay Qld. Before we jetted off overseas, i raced up to “Summer Bay” as I call it, visited by beautiful mum Mausa and lined up this review.
Owners Nic and Jodie have recently celebrated there 21st birthday at Pie and Pastry Paradise and currently employ over 32 staff and operate 3 stores throughout the Hervey Bay region.
Nic’s family story is EPIC, he’s a fourth generation baker and up until recently his daughter dabbled in the industry as well, making it number five. There is a great photo in the bakery of Nic’s grandfather pushing a wooden bread cart down a street in the city of Dordrecht in the Netherlands. The family’s history in the baking game is incredible and these stories is my favorite part about these reviews.
After checking out the entire bakery it was finally time to choose what 🥧 I was going to review. Jodie asked me did I like “Garlic” and it was a huge YES. Then Jodie recommended I try one of their “Chicken and Garlic 🥧’s” This is not my normal 🥧 of choose, but I absolutely love garlic and I was super keen to give this one a crack.
🥧THE REVIEW 🥧
1. Value for Money – $5.80 is great value for this 🥧. It was a decent size in diameter and depth. Any pie that’s under 6 bucks in today’s economic climate is terrific value. 9.5/10
2. Meat Ratio – Excellent !!!! This 🥧 was nice and full. The chicken pieces were also a very generous size. 10/10
3. Meat Flavour – Decent size chicken pieces, garlic and creamy with sauce. Very basic ingredients but highly effective. The flavor was beautiful and this 🥧had the right amount of garlic in it as well. Overall excellent. 9.5/10
4. Pastry – Stability, color and texture were all a pass mark ✅, however the pasty was slightly undercooked. This has affected the score in this category. 7/10
5. Serving Temperature – Perfect !!! Straight out of the warmer and down the hatch !!! 10/10

It’s not often I review a chicken 🥧 and I’m glad I reviewed this one. The whole experience gets a huge 👍👍. The price and flavor were clear standouts. This was a decent sized 🥧 and priced accordingly. The ingredients in this 🥧 were very basic, but it worked a treat. The chicken pieces were huge and the garlic quantity was perfect. The only negative was the pastry that slightly undercooked and this is evident through the photos, apart from that this 🥧 was very good and one I would have again without hesitation.
A huge thanks to the team at Pie and Pastry Paradise for having me in on short notice. This place is a huge operation 3 stores and 32 staff and yet Nic and Jodie had no hesitation spending valuable time with me and sharing their incredible story. After many years in the industry you would think these guys would be slowing down, well it’s the opposite. The whole team is on a mission to continue to serve up the absolute best products. One of the things that stood out was how clean the whole bakery was. It was spotless and cleaner than a hospital operating theatre and that’s just one example of the high standards the whole team set. This bakery is a absolute must stop and there are no excuses because as mentioned earlier there are three stores located in the Bay area and between the three they are open seven days a week.
Hervey Bay and surrounds is a bloody awesome spot to visit, it’s the gateway to Fraser Island and the famous hump back whales, both experiences are a absolute must. Plus if your a food lover like myself, pop in and visit my good friends Dan, Steph + Emmy and their restaurant Eat at Dan & Steph’s. The sausage man puts on a EPIC feed.
