Over the next few weeks, I will be posting several reviews from all over the place with no location structure. My next major tour won’t be till January next year, so until then it will be a lucky dip of reviews.
This next review happened pretty quickly and it was pretty awesome. A legend of a bloke named Dion reached out to me as soon as I landed from the US and asked if i could pop out and try his homemade 🥧’s.
Dion and his Mrs Jess run a mobile food van named Peaky Grinderz (gotta love that name) The van can be seen traveling between the Canberra suburbs of Fyswick, Greenway and Phillip daily. These guys have a tremendous 🥧 journey, Jess runs a highly succesful hairdressing business, while Dion has had quite a diverse, employment background that incudes – QLD fire fighter, intensive care work, a chef and even recently doing his own podcasts
Three years ago, the 🥧’s were introduced to the menu, and since then, the people of Canberra have been embracing their newfound love for them, with their popularity continuing to soar. Soaring is a understatement these 🥧’s sell out so quick it’s not funny. Apart from the 🥧’s, Peaky Grinderz is famous for its own bled of coffee, so if your a bit of a coffee nut you’ve gotta give the coffee here a serious nudge.
For a small food van the selection on offer is fantasic. Dion has created a epic menu that includes your standard favourites along with a great choice of gourmet flavours. One of the flavoured 🥧’s that caught my attention was the “ buffalo chicken and cheese” This was a very unique combination and one I’ve never had before, so without question this is the one I was going to review.
🥧 THE REVIEW 🥧
1. Value for Money – $9.50 is creeping up there, but this 🥧 was a healthy weight and a fairly decent sized 🥧 in weight and diameter. Plus it was totally full, which is a great result. Overall, pretty good value 8/10
2. Meat/Fill Ratio – Totally full !!! Zero issues here. 10/10
3. Flavour – The flavour in this 🥧 was absolutely ridiculous. The chicken were massive and scattered throughout the 🥧. The cheddar cheese was the exact amount and not overpowering and the handmade buffalo sauce was insane. I particularly liked the added cheese because it mellowed the buffalo spice a fraction and blended in well. Dion’s homemade buffalo sauce whilst spicy won’t blow your head off and will accommodate most people. Outstanding flavour Dion love ya work 10/10
4. Pastry – The pastry was perfect !!! Simple as that !!! From the colour to the stability even the bakes everything about it was fabulous. To top it off the pastry flour was beautiful 10/10
5. Serving Temperature – Perfect serving temp. No issues at all. 10/10

This was as close to the perfect 🥧 as you can get. Yeah the $9.50 price tag will raise some eyebrows, but your getting absolute quality with this one. The 🥧 was full, temperature spot on, pastry on point and for me the flavour was magnificent. That homemade buffalo sauce “had me a hello” Great job mate oustanding product and one I will be 100% having again.
Trust me, you need to jump onto the Peaky Grinderz social pages and get exact times and locations of this food van. These 🥧’s are a dead set must try. In fact the 🥧’s were so good, I smashed 4 of the buggers. Highly recommended.
Not only does Dion make a cracking 🥧 he’s a cracking fella as well. Thank you so much for reaching out mate, this review was sensational. The hard work you and the bride have put into this business is ridiculous and you deserve every success that comes you way. Your passion for 🥧’s is up there with the best I’ve seen as are your 🥧 making skills. Great work mate well done.
