After leaving Gin Gin we parked up for a few days in Hervey Bay to see family and visit some bakeries. One of those bakeries on the list to visit was Pastry Creations in the nearby town Maryborough. I’ve driven past this bakery so many times before, but never tried their 🥧’s. So I asked around got the owners Brodie and Steph’s details and lined up a visit
Pastry Creations Bakery is open 6 days a week (Mon to Sat) and is located 4/201 Gympie Road Tinana. The bakery is tucked away at the back of the small shopping complex but packs plenty of punch.
Brodie has been baking for quite some time and Steph has been right beside him. The dynamic duo took over this place 4 years ago and made immediate changes and now are kicking some serious goals. The cabinet display is incredible and the products looked just as good.
Apart from the 🥧’s, Steph’s selection of cakes caught my attention !!! OMG they looked amazing, Steph has real talent for baking and decorating cakes and sadly it’s a dying art in bakeries around 🇦🇺. After meeting the the team and chewing the fat for a while, it was time to check out the warmer and choose a 🥧 to review.
There is a awesome selection of 🥧’s on the menu here. Traditional, gourmet and a 🥧 of the month that’s also featured. I looked at a few and eventually went with the “Chunky Steak and Diane Sauce” I’m a bit of a sucker for diane sauce so I was keen to see how this one stacked up.
🥧 THE REVIEW 🥧
1. Value for Money – $6.20 was fantastic value for a 🥧 of this size and quality. It weighed in around 260 grams which is well above industry standard. It’s very rare to see a 🥧 priced in the low 6’s and if you see one you meed take full advantage of it. 10/10
2. Meat/Fill Ratio – Another pic where looks can be deceiving. There was plenty of meat chunks in this 🥧. Very solid meat/gravy ratio. 8/10
3. Flavour – The flavour itself was really really good. The meat chucks were cooked beautifully and were incredibly tender. The diane sauce tasted sensational but sadly was a little runny. Apart from this the overall flavor experience couldn’t be faulted. Just thicken up that sauce and you’ve got a ripping flavoured 🥧 7.5/10
4. Pastry – The pastry was actually very good. The shape, color and shrinkage were all excellent as pics indicate. As the Diane sauce was a little runny, making the stability a little tricky but it still held firm. The top bake and thickness were really well presented and the bottom bake wasn’t far away. The pastry flavour was really nice as well and couldn’t be faulted. 8.5/10
5. Serving Temperature – Perfect temp !!! 10/10

This is the second straight QLD bakery we’re an apprentice has made my 🥧. Apprentices are the future of our industry and the product Cara has delivered was wonderful . The top bake pastry in particular was really well done as was the color, shape and shrinkage. The flavor was good, just need to thicken up that diane sauce a little. $6.20 is crazy cheap and it was a decent size too. Cara you little legend keep up the fantastic work, your 🥧 was great and I would 100% have another one. Highly recommended.
100% add this bakery to your 🥧 list. There is heaps of on site parking and the products are great. If your after a cake of any sort (birthday, christening, wedding or whatever) Steph is the “Cake Master” and will be able to whip you up just about anything.
To Steph and Brodie a huge thanks for having me, showing me around and allowing me to share your 🥧 journey. You guys have assembled an awesome team and your products are stunning. The hard work both of you have put into this place is incredible and you deserve every success that comes your way. What I do love if your passion for bringing the next crop of young bakers through and your apprentices are shining as a result of your expert tutelage. Stay safe guys and I will 100% be popping back in again.
