Ocean Bakehouse
(Narrabeen Beach)

After smashing about 4 curry Roti Pies it was time to have a couple PFD (Pie Free Days) before hitting the last 2 northern beaches bakeries on this little mini tour. The second last bakery on my list was the Ocean bakehouse Narrabeen.

The Ocean Bakehouse is located on 1248 Pittwater Road Narrabeen. Open 7 days a week the bakery is owned by San and Sokhary. This amazing couple have had this place for over 21 years. San comes from a baking family with his brother and father both learning and practicing the trade in Cambodia. Like many bakeries I visit this is another family run business with San and Sokhary’s three teenage kids helping out in the bakery when needed.

The cabinet display and the enormous variety of food on offer here is out of control. You’ve got all the usual favourites plus a massive range of fresh sandwiches and rolls. Choosing something to eat in this bakery is not a easy task, my mind was wandering everywhere, but as always I was there for the 🥧’s and it was time to get this party started.

This weeks 🥧 of choice was a easy decision. I wanted to keep the curry theme rolling on from Roti 🥧’s and with that said I went with one of San’s favourites the “Chicken Thai Curry” it’s not one of my usual choices, but I wanted to try something a little different and gee it smelt beautiful.

🥧 THE REVIEW 🥧

1. Value for Money – $7.90 is certainly getting up there for a gourmet 🥧. The size of the 🥧 was quite healthy. The diameter was the standard size, but the depth was a little deeper than usual. Overall good value for money. The proce wasn’t outrageous and at $7.90 it’s still affordable. 8/10

2. Meat Ratio – This bad boy was about 85% full. Yes the chicken pieces were massive, but there was a couple empty spots here and there that could have been plugged. 8/10

3. Flavour – Bloody beautiful !!! Easily my favourite part of this 🥧 experience. Massive fresh breast chicken pieces, capsicum, celery, authentic curry spices and chili. Every bite was devine and the curry and chili gave this 🥧 the extra flavour it needed. Great job guys, this was a beautifully flavoured 🥧 10/10

4. Pastry – A mixed bag here !!! The shape, color and shrinkage were all more than acceptable. On the negative side the bakes were too thick and both bakes were slightly underdone. The pastry flavour was actually really nice. 6.5/10

5. Serving Temperature – Terrific !!! No issues here 10/10

Overall Rating
🥧🥧 42.5/50 🥧🥧

Although the score may not reflect it, this was actually a really nice 🥧. The various flavours San has come up with in this 🥧 was mouth watering. Every bite just got better and better and I didn’t want it to end. The pastry needed a few tweaks here and there but this could have been a one off and I’m prepared to get back again and give it another crack. Would I recommend this 🥧 ? Hell yes !! if your a chicken curry fan, this flavour will knock your socks off.

A massive thanks to San and Sokhary for having me in and Andrew from MOI International – Australia for organizing this review. This was a sensational visit and San and his beautiful family are dead set superstars. You wouldn’t meet a nicer bloke than San. This bakery is a little cracker and 100% worth the stop in, as mentioned earlier the food on the menu and in the cabinets looked incredible.
