Nimbin Bakery
(Nimbin NSW)

This next review was about 2 years in the making and once again almost didn’t happen. Every time I got close this bakery or this magnificant area something would happen especially floods. So in Jan this year I hoped in the car and was finally on route to one of the weirded, quirkiest towns in Australia and and that town was Nimbin.

Nestled in the northern rivers region of NSW, Nimbin is known for its environmental initiatives, including sustainability and permaculture, cannabis counter-culture, grassroots political initiatives, and the practice of alternative social philosophies.

As crazy as Nimbin is, I wasn’t there for the wacky tobacky. I was here to see a a ripping fella named Darren and his legendary
Nimbin Bakery. Darren has operated this bakery for a tick over 13 years. The bakery has been in the town for a number of years but was closed when Darren took first took over.

Located smack bang in the main drag, this little bakery is cute, plus has a terrific selection of food on offer. Once again the cabinet display was impressive and full to the brim. The pastry selection certainly got my attention especially the doughnuts !!! I had to compose myself for a minute and get back. After getting the tour and meeting all Darren’s epic staff it was time to get stuck into a few 🥧’s.

The selection of 🥧’s at this bakery is more than acceptable, this week I wanted to try something a little different and Darren had one in mind that was right up my alley. Darren pulled out one of his most popular flavours and that was the mince/chunky beef strogonoff. It looked sensational and I was ready to tuck in.

🥧 THE REVIEW 🥧

1. Value for Money – $6 was terrific value for a 🥧 of this size. The diameter and depth was more than acceptable. To find any 🥧 around that $6 range and one of this size was a excellent score. 9.5/10

2. Meat Ratio – Full Full Full !!! Zero issues here. 10/10

3. Flavour – Overall pretty good. The mince and chunky beef was cooked to perfection, while the strogonoff sauce wasn’t too strong or overpowering. Only negative the sauce was a little on the runny side, but this was only a minor issue. 7.5/10

4. Pastry – Shape, shrinkage and colour all very good. The stroganoff sauce was a little runny but the stability still held together. The top and bottom bake thickness were also really good, however one side was a fraction too thick. Overall very good and the pastry had a nice flavour to it as well. Great job 9/10

5. Serving Temperature – A little hot but nothing major 9/10

Overall Rating
🥧🥧 45/50 🥧🥧

This was a quality product and one I throughly enjoyed. The price point and meat ratio were standouts !!! The flavour was also very good while the pasty was almost perfect with only a minor blemish here and there. As far a stroganoff 🥧’s go this one was right up there with the best I’ve had. Good job team I really enjoyed this 🥧.

A huge thanks to Darren and his amazing staff for there hospitality. As mentioned earlier Darren’s a terrific fella and runs a very good ship. If your around the northern rivers 100% add this little bakery to your travel plans you certainly won’t be disappointed.

Look the town of Nimbin won’t be everyone’s cup of tee, but if your after something very different this is the place to go. My experience was extremely positive, the locals were super friendly.
