We finally arrived at Nicholson River Holiday Park and to be honest I couldn’t wait to chill out and relax for the next 4/5 days. I spent some time in this area in back in June 2025 and did a stack of reviews, but somehow missed the Nicholson General Store and Post Office. My followers wanted me burnt at the stake for missing this legendary place, so when I started planning this 2026 🥧 tour, this place was the top of the list.
Nicholson River is a 72–83 km long waterway in East Gippsland. The store is located right near the main bridge and is situated between Lakes Entrance and Bairnsdale.
Originally a truckstop in the 1950’s, in the early 2000’s the store introduced 🥧’s, they took off and as they say the rest is history. Then in 2019 Jamie and Tracey took over the place and did a full knock down of the site and the store was brought back to life.
The building is fantasic and the moment you walk in the door you’re greeted with a sensational cabinet display filled with sensational products. The store is open 7 days a week, offers a full breakfast and lunch menu and stocks local produce and other items. It’s star attraction of course is the 🥧’s and after glancing at the 🥧 warmer I was frothing at the bit to get started.
Jenny and her team have created a magnificent list of flavours on the menu board. Beef and chicken are heavily featured and there is something on this menu to suit everyone. There was only one real flavour I wanted to try and that was the “Beef Brisket”. I’ve had so many 🥧 punters tip me this particular flavour and OMG it looked a treat.
🥧 THE REVIEW 🥧
1. Value for Money – $10 was terrific value in my opinion for a 🥧 of this size and quality. This was a massive 🥧 and weighed in at around 300grams. It was totally jammed packed as well. It was like having two 🥧’s in one it was that big and totally worth the money in my opinion 9.5/10
2. Meat/Fill Ratio – Full, simple as that. Actually it was almost spilling out the top it was that full. 10/10
3 Flavour – OMG the flavour in this 🥧 was devine. 12 hour slow cooked beef brisket, red wine, garlic, herbs and crushed tomato’s. I was asked what was the best way to describe the flavour, well it was like having a “Ragu Casserole”.
Every bite was filled with huge chunks of meat and a beautiful flavour. The team have nailed this one, loved it 10/10
4. Pastry – The first thing that will grab your attention is the color and the hand crimping, both looked amazing. The shape and stability were both perfect. This was a ridiculously heavy 🥧 and when tipped upside down it didn’t move, which was pretty impressive. The bottom bake thickness was perfect as was the bake. The top bake thinkness was excellent, but the bake was ever so slightly under done. Apart from that this pastry was almost perfect. Great work team. 9.5/10
5. Serving Temperature – Perfect !!! No issues. 10/10

This was an outstanding product and was even smaller than a bee’s dick away from being perfect. Everything about it was wonderful and it got better with every bite. People will 100% have a “Karen” moment when they discover the price, but this is a massive 🥧 and having one is more than enough, it’s very filling. The flavour was terrific, the 🥧 was choc a block full and the pastry and serving temp were great. Jenny and her team have done a sterling job with this flavour and all the 🥧’s I sampled. I’ve had so many 🥧 punters bail me up and tell me how epic this joint is and now I’m on that same train. These 🥧’s are bigger, dearer than your traditionally bakery 🥧 but totally worth every cent. Excellent job guys, 100% recommended.
Add this epic little store to your travel plans. Not only are the 🥧’s phenomenal the breaky and lunch options are first class. The breakfast I had on my last morning was great. What makes this place even better is there is a caravan park next door which is sensational and there’s a pub only a stones throw away. All in all this is one place you need to visit and spend some time exploring.
Jamie, Tracey and the rest of the team a massive thank you for having me in and allowing me to share the history in this epic building and your 🥧 journey. Jamie and Tracey you have created a destination for people to come, meet friends, share a yarn and enjoy magnificent products. Inside the store is spotless clean and the well layed out and this is a real credit to yourselves and your team. This is one of the best general stores I’ve been in and seen on my travels. All the best guys and one thing is guaranteed “I will be back” .
