Ken’s Humble Pie Shop

With the Newcastle reviews over for now, i decided to head a little further south to the picturesque area of the Entrance. This place is beautiful and known for its beautiful beaches, cafes and the legendary 🥧 joint called Ken’s Humble Pie Shop.
This place had been on my radar for sometime so I reached out and head baker Jason came straight back to me. We spoke on the phone chewed the fat and lined up a visit.
Opened 14 years ago this old school 🥧 shop quickly gained a reputation which saw visitors flock from all over the country to try Ken’s epic products, more particularly is 🥧’s. In December last year the 🥧 master himself “Ken” retired. Head baker Jason stayed on and new owner Tony continued on with the show. This place get crazy busy and apparently I was there on a quiet day. Be warned the que was out the door and that’s the normal. From the moment I walked in I was in awe of the menu board and was keen to get cracking.
There is a mammoth 30 plus different variaties on the menu board. Every single flavour imaginable is on the meny and some flavors will blow you away. For this weeks review I wanted to give something a little left field a go and in the end I went with “Honey Chilli Duck” This particular flavour was like nothing I’ve tried before, so this was going to be to interesting.
🥧 THE REVIEW 🥧
1. Value for Money – $7.30 in my opinion was fantastic value for what in my opinion is considered a gourmet flavoured 🥧. It was a decent size 🥧 and almost full. Pretty easy to score. 9.5/10
2. Meat/Fill Ratio – About 95% full. Only a few small air pockets that needed to be filled. 9.5/10
3. Flavour – To be honest the flavour really surprised me. The flavour is this thing was excellent and very unique. The duck was cooked really good and completely melted in your mouth, while the honey and chilli amounts were just enough. The 🌶️ did have a little sting to it, then the honey softened it and bought a unique sweet flavour to the overall experience. Great job 9/10
4. Pastry – The overall pastry was pretty good. The color, shape and stability were all more than acceptable. In my opinion the both bake thickness were right on the money. The bakes itself needed more time in the oven and wet lines were evident. 8/10
5. Serving Temperature – Perfect serving temp 10/10

Im so glad I choose and ran with this particular flavour, it was very different and like nothing I’ve every tried. All five category scores were very consistent, with the flavour in my opinion the standout. The duck tasted terrific, the chilli was the perfect amount, but it was the honey that gave this 🥧 the unique flavour. The 🥧 was just about full and was extremely well priced. It’s certainly not my normal go to flavour, but one I would have again no problems at all. Great job guys. I really enjoyed this 🥧.
This legendary Central Coast Pie Shop should be on everyone’s 🥧 list. Your going to be very surprised how busy this place gets, so get in early. The Entrance is a stunning place and 100% worth the visit. I stayed at the Dunleith Tourist Park. It’s a great park with sites directly on the water, highly recommended.
A massive thanks to Jason and Tony for their amazing hospitality while I was there. Tony has done an incredible job since he has taken over. It can be very difficult for new owners to come into a long standing business and live up to the expectations. Tony has come in and done a sterling job since he’s taken over and that can be seen through the epic products. All the best guys and I cannot wait to come back.
