Glenreagh Bakery
(Glenreagh NSW)

Jan 2025

This current 🥧 tour was in it’s final stages and gee was I looking forward to putting my feet up and having a well earned rest. This trip has seen me travel through 5 states/territories, doing over 16,000km. I still had a little bit to go and my next stop was around the Coffs Harbour area. Sometime ago I made a promise to an awesome chick called Brooke that I would visit her and her amazing Glenreagh Bakery

The small town of Glenreagh is located approximately 30mins north west of Coffs Harbour and the nearby Nana Glen which is home to the gladiator himself Russell Crowe. While Rusty has smashed many a 🥧 at this joint it was my first time and I was super excited.

The bakery itself is located in the main drag just down from the pub. Don’t be fooled by its size, this place gets out of control busy and that’s due to owner Brooke and the work she has put into this place.

The bakery itself has been around for over 40 years and Brooke has been at the helm for the past 3 and a half of them. Brooke started her Pastry Chef career as an apprentice a couple of hours south of Sydney in a small French bakery. At the age of 20 she won Bake Skills Australia which started her international pastry career, taking her to the Callebaut Chocolate factory in Singapore. Back in Australia, Brooke spent a number of years working in various fine dining restaurants across Sydney including The Bathers Pavilion in Balmoral. Then almost 4 years ago took the leap into buying her own bakery.

While only tiny inside the products on sale here are simply stunning. The bread and savories immediately caught my eye but it was the 🥧’s I was here for and I was keen to get started.

About seven 🥧’s to choose from on the menu, but as soon as I took a look I immediately knew what I was going to choose. A good pepper steak gets me every time and I was informed that Brooke’s ones are red hot.

🥧 THE REVIEW 🥧

1. Value for Money – I’m not going to lie $7.80 is 100% up there in the price tag department but when you compare it to a sandwich or Maccas burger it’s great value. Decent size in height and weight and full. 7/10

2. Meat/Fill Ratio – Totally full !!! No more could have been squeezed into this 🥧. 10/10

3. Flavour – Easily the best part of this 🥧 in my opinion. The meat was cooked beautifully and I loved the gravy sauce it blended in so well. You could easily taste the peppercorns with every bite. This bad boy had some serious sting to it, which I absolutely loved. The flavour in this 🥧 was so easy to score. 10/10

4. Pastry – Apart from the pastry being ever so slightly underbaked, the overall pastry was excellent. All the important aspects like color, shape, shrinkage and stability were spot on. The pastry had a great taste to it. The underbaked pastry could have been a once off as all the other 🥧’s I cut in half were spot on. Great job 9/10

5. Serving Temperature – Perfect temp. 10/10

Overall Rating
🥧🥧 46/50 🥧🥧

Overall, this was a quality product and one I thoroughly enjoyed. The scores were very consistent across the categories with 9’s and 10’s. The $7.80 price tag is a little steep compared to other pepper steak 🥧’s I’ve reviewed. The flavour in this thing was next level and up there with one of the best pepper flavoured 🥧’s I’ve had. Only negative on the pastry side was slightly underbaked and that was it, everything else about the pastry was terrific. Great job team this was a little ripper.

Another awesome bakery to add to your list and make sure your on “Rusty” watch !!! The big fella loves his meat 🥧’s and can often be found in the bakery getting stuck into a couple. Little communities like Glenreagh need the support from tourists so take the slight detour off the highway, pop in and say gday.

Brooke your a dead set legend and so are your staff, thanks heaps for having me in. The hard work, time, dedication and love you have put into this little bakery is insane and you deserve every success that comes your way. What I love is your continued passion for the industry and baking exceptional products. Your little community is so lucky to have such a quality bakery like yours operating in town.
