Review No 43
Gerogery Hotel
(Gerogery NSW)

May 2025

A couple of months ago, I embarked on a 7 week road trip down to Victoria. It’s a state I haven’t really explored or seen much of, so I was keen to hit the road and see where it leads me. After collecting the caravan, I made tracks and made a beeline for the Gerogery Hotel NSW
or as is it’s commonly known as “The G-Rodge” When i’m on the road I try to stay at many pub locations as possible. Country pubs are the livelihoods of little communities and it’s important we support them and the G-Rodge has been on my plans for sometime. As it turns out the pub has a cafe attached to the side of the building and it makes epic homemade 🥧’s.

The Gerogery Hotel is located in the small New South Wales town of Gerogery. The town itself is located about 30km north of Albury and the pub is the main attraction. Owners Norm and Lisa took over this place in March 2021. Since taking over, the pub has been bought back to life. Norm and Lisa have created a place with locals and tourists can enjoy a cold beer, fantastic food and live music in a family friendly relaxed environment. The hotel also provides self-contained camping out the back (Wiki) which has heaps of room for passing travelers

In recent times, the pub has become famous for its colossal eating challenges. This includes a 1 kg or a 2 kg rump steak, the double stack parmi, the behemoth mixed grill, the towing burger and the 1.2kg 🥧 with 500g peas and 500g potato. I’ve seen these all these eating challenges live in the flesh and there’s no was I could take any of these on. I was more interested in the normal sized 🥧’s that were available in the café.

After waking up a little “Slim Shady” I was super keen to get out of the café and check out these 🥧’s. I was hoping a few of these may ease the hangover and get me through the rest of the day. As you can appreciate being a small hotel the menu options is quite small, with only four flavours available and each of them containing slow cooked brisket. One 🥧 I certainly wasn’t having was the “Ring Stinga” Hot 🌶️’s and caravan toilets, don’t go well so this one was out of the question. After having a brief look at the menu I went with the “Brisket Pepper”

🥧 THE REVIEW 🥧

1. Value for Money – I’m not going to lie $10.40 is 100% getting up there, but there’s an old saying you pay for what you get. In this case you’re getting the highest grade brisket beef and that’s not cheap. The 🥧 is also a fairly decent size in depth and diameter and it was totally full. 7/10

2. Meat/Fill Ratio – Totally Full 🥧 absolutely no complaints. 10/10

3. Flavour – When you first look at the photos it gives you the indication that the brisket was dry, but it was far from that. The briskets natural juices tasted fantastic and added real flavour. The peppercorns gave the flavour a bit of sting, but nothing to scare you away. Great flavoured 🥧. 8/10

4. Pastry – In my opinion the pastry was the best part of this experience. From the color to the bakes everything about this pastry was spot on. I particularly loved the top bake flakiness and the overall pastry taste. Most importantly when tipped upside down the stability was absolutely fantastic. Great job team you nailed this pastry. 10/10

5. Serving Temperature – Perfect serving temp 10/10

Overall Rating
🥧🥧 45/50 🥧🥧

Overall this was a really good product. For a country pub to dish up grub like this is pretty damn awesome. Yeah the price is up there, but the quality speaks for itself. The flavour was excellent and the pastry is up there with the best I’ve reviewed. Norm and his team have done a wonderful job with this product and I have no hesitation, recommending these 🥧’s to every 🥧 lover out there. Well done great job guys.

This is one country pub you 100% wanna add to your travel plans. Its only a short drive off the Hume Highway and has overnight self contained camping. In my opinion it’s up there with the best country pubs experiences in Aus. The meals are absolutely fantastic and trust me you’re gonna have a great time.

A huge thanks to Norm, Lisa and the rest of the incredible staff for an amazing stay. The hard work and effort he these guys have put into this pub is mind blowing, and they deserve every success that comes their way. This is a true blue aussie pub that everyone should visit at least once. Great job guys and keep up the good work.
