During the The Official Great Aussie Pie Competition
this year i was introduced to a incredible woman who I had been following online for quite some time. I was told by multiple sources her products were sensational, but for me i was following her because of her crazy sense of humor and hilarious social media videos. After chatting for a bit, I was informed that 🥧’s are now on her menu and this gave me a perfect reason to exchange numbers and organize a visit when I got back from the US.
So a few weeks ago I headed out to the Sydney suburb of Beverly Hills to Frida’s Pies and L.A Donuts and this hilarious women was none other than Frida Deguise.
Frida established LA Doughnuts in 2018 and the place was a instant hit, fast forward 7 years and this little dream she had has now expanded to three thriving locations, and a processing factory and a business that employs over 35 staff.
This amazing women has a serious passion for food and is also widely recognized as Australia’s first (and possibly only) hijab-wearing Muslim Australian stand-up comedian. She rapidly made a name for herself by fearlessly challenging stereotypes and bringing a unique voice to the Australian comedy scene.
Early this year Frida’s 🥧’s opened with the assistance of her 17 year old son Adnan. The 🥧 shop is located right next to the doughnut shop on King George’s Road and since opening 🥧’s have been flying out the door.
Together this mother and son duo have created a fantastic menu that includes over 14 different varieties of flavours that will cater for every 🥧 lover. Frida and Adnan bought out a
smorgasbord of 🥧’s for me to try, but the one I wanted to try first and review was “Beef & Mushroom” This thing looked amazing and I had to keep reminding myself this 🥧 was baked by a 17 year old lad, who has just started learning the trade.
🥧 THE REVIEW 🥧
1. Value for Money – $7.50 represented fantastic around value. This was a healthy 🥧 in weight, diameter and depth and for Sydney prices this 🥧 was priced exceptionally well in my opinion. 9/10
2. Meat/Fill Ratio – Zero issues here !!! This 🥧 was totally full 10/10
3. Flavour – The young fella has done a tremendous job with this flavour. The meat was cooked really well. The mushrooms were a decent size and tasted fantastic. The gravy sauce was awesome and has a smidge of worcestershire in there that gave it some real added flavour. Great job 8.5/10
4. Pastry – Check out the pics and see it for yourself Adnan has done a wonderful job with this pastry. Apart from the top bake, and the lack of lamination the overall pastry was very good. The color, shape, shrinkage and stability were all perfect. The bottom bake and the thickness was also on point and the pastry flavour was beautiful. Great job 9/10
5. Serving Temperature – Perfect serving temp. No issues at all. 10/10

Hats off to you young man this was a excellent product. This 🥧 was not made pacifically for me, I grabbed it straight out of the warmer and loved every bite. All five scoring categories were very consistent, but I was particularly impressed with the young fella’s pastry. Apart from the lack of lamination the overall pastry was great. $7.50 is really well priced, the 🥧 was full and the flavour was tremendous. Great product !!! you’ve got a big future in this industry, highly recommended.
By visiting the Beverly Hills location, you get the best of both worlds, fantastic
🥧’s and unbelievable 🍩’s. Trust me by visiting this location you’re destined for a very bad food day, but you’re going to ❤️ it.
To Frida and Adnan thank you so much for enjoyable and exceptionally funny review. Frida what you have created and what you have achieved is nothing short of astonishing. You are one incredible woman, you are very inspiring and this is now beeing passed on to your son. Adnan you have a massive future in this industry and you’re an impressive young man, keep working hard chase your dream and the sky’s the limit. See you next time I’m in Sydney.
