Forster Bakehouse

The Forster/Tuncurry area was absolutely magic and after reviewing Tunners Bakehouse, revisiting Lakeways Bakery and playing golf my time here was almost at a end. Before I left this magical place I had one more bakery to visit and that was Forster Bakehouse.
The Forster Bakehouse is located at 19 Wharf Street Forster and is currently owned and operated by a lovely couple Daryl and Lammy. Open 7 days a week, the bakery has been serving hungry locals and tourists since the mid 1980’s. Daryl and Lammy bought this place 10 years ago and haven’t looked back.
Daryl has been baking glorious 🥧’s and other goodies for just over 32 years. He also comes from a long line of bakers with his father and grandfather in the baking trade owning and operating bakeries around the Sydney area for many many years.
The first thing that caught my eye on arrival was the impressive cabinet display. The food in there looked insane. Then two other things got my immediate attention. The first one was the tray of blue “Cookie Monster” cup cakes !!! OMG these things looked incredible. The second was a sign on the wall saying “Indo Fish Curry 🥧”
This had me automatically intrigued. Although I’m not a massive fish fan, I do love curry 🥧’s and was keen to find out more. As it turns out this particular 🥧 won a gold medal at last years The Official Great Aussie Pie Competition. So with that in mind choosing a 🥧 to review this week became easy choice.
🥧 THE REVIEW 🥧
1. Value for Money – $6.90 was outstanding value for this 🥧. It was quite heavy and was a decent size in both diameter and depth. With the ingredients that went into this 🥧 this could easily be classed as gourmet 🥧. $6.90 was sensational value 10/10
2. Meat Ratio – Totally full and jammed packed full of Mahi Mahi fish. 10/10
3. Flavour – Sensational, epic, amazing, mouth watering all of the above. This 🥧 had huge chunks of fresh Mahi Mahi, ginger, lemon grass, chili, tumeric plus a couple other secret ingredients. I’m not going to lie this 🥧 had a decent kick to it, but nothing that would blow your head off !!! Every bite was unbelievable and got better and better as I ploughed through it. Outstanding job guys 10/10
4. Pastry – Every aspect of this pastry was perfect !!! color, shape, shrinkage, top bake, bottom bake, thickness and pastry flavour was first class. The top bake was flakey and crunchy which added some real flavour to the overall pastry. Great job team 10/10
5. Serving Temperature – Perfect !!! Nothing to worry about at all 10/10

Daryl and Lammy welcome to the perfect 🥧 club !!! Your product was truly amazing. As mentioned earlier I’m not a huge fish lover but the Mahi Mahi tasted out of this world. Every ingredient in this 🥧 you could taste with every bite and the added chilli was a complete master stroke. The price was cheap, the 🥧 was full, the flavour and pastry was perfect and the serving temp was spot on. In my opinion this was the perfect 🥧 and I loved every minute of it. Outstanding effort team and now I can see why this 🥧 scored so highly at last years comp. The only disappointing thing was I didn’t grab a few of these epic “Indo Fish Curry 🥧’s” to take away. It just gives me another reason to head back.
This is a awesome little bakery and now you have a good reason to pop in a try this incredible 🥧. I must warn you, get in early as this flavour does sell out very quickly. I also had the pepper steak 🥧 while I was there and it was terrific.
A massive thanks to Daryl and his team for having me in. This was a quick visit but a review I’m so glad I did. Sadly I didn’t get to meet Lammy his wife, but I’m hearing the “Indo Fish Curry” is her own reciepe and a mighty good one at that. All the best guys and keep up the outstanding work.
As I said in the last review Foster/Tuncurry is a unbelievable place and a must see for all ages. The 3 bakeries I’ve reviewed here were all first class. Also the Tuncurry Sports Club is a must stay it was sensational value (must be self sufficient) its close to town and the meals were superb. Highly recommend !!!!
