2024 🥧 Tour
Review no 5
Forest Glen Artisan Cafe
(Forest Glen – Sunshine Coast QLD)

The Gold Coast and Northern Rivers mini tour was pretty awesome. I finally got to visit a few bakeries that were on my 🥧 list for a while and all of them didn’t disappoint. I made the trek back to the Sunny Coast to visit one of the newest bakeries in the area. This new place was the
Forest Glen Artisan Cafe.

Located in the Village Centre Way at Forest Glen rhis new bakery opened its doors last September and business is booming. Owners Rod and Amanda have done an incredible job setting up this new place. The joint is spacious and oozes class.

Rod has been in the baking game since 1998 and started is apprenticship out in the western suberbs of Sydney, before heading to Cairns. After a little while he took time out of the baking game and relocted to the Sunshine Coast. After 3/4 years out of the game, he and wife Amanda got itchy feet again and decided to open up there own place.

The cabinet display totally blew me away. Everything and I mean everything in this bakery looked absolutely incredible. The sandwiches, rolls, cakes and most importantly the 🥧’s all grabbed my attention. I was like a kid going to Disneyland for the first time, I couldn’t hold my excitement and was jumping at the bit to get cracking.

The 🥧 warmer was full of 🥧’s and the selection of flavours at this new bakery was super impressive. I tried the steak pepper and the steak guinness 🥧’s, both were simply outstanding. For this review I wanted something different and I decided to run with the satay chicken with roasted macadamia. This 🥧 looked insane and weighed a tonne.

🥧 THE REVIEW 🥧

1. Value for Money – Initially $8 would seem expensive for a chicken 🥧, but this bad boy was weighing in at a tick over 360 grams. The 🥧 was a decent size in diameter and depth was more than acceptable as well. This 🥧 was incredibly heavy, it felt like I was holding a house brick. Overall this was exceptional value !!!! 10/10

2. Meat Ratio – Totally full !!! Great job guys 10/10

3. Flavour – The flavour was absolutely beautiful. The chicken pieces were massive, plentyiful and were cooked to perfection. You got a mouthful of roasted macadamias with every bite, while the satay sauce was perfect. The sauce was creamy and had the littlest of kicks which really added to the overall flavour. Great effort Rod !!! 10/10

4. Pastry – Color, shape, stability were all perfect. The pastry has a terrific flavour to it, especially the top which was golden and flakey. The top and bottom bake thickness were really impressive. The only negative on that aspect was the side bakes were a fraction too thick and I mean a fraction. As far as the bakes go the bottom was perfect while the top was slightly under done. Apart from that this, the pastry was really impressive. 8.5/10

5. Serving Temperature – Perfect temp 10/10

Overall Rating
🥧🥧 48.5/50 🥧🥧

I absolutely loved this product. Apart from a small issue with the pastry bake, this was the perfect 🥧. The flavour of this thing was out of control and got better and better with every bite. On first thoughts $8 would seem high, but this bad boy weighed in at 360 gram 🥧 which represented terrific value. I smashed 3 🥧’s during this visit and all were exceptional and weighed the same. If you love satay chicken, you going to froth over this 🥧. Great works team a truly great product.

You 100% need to add this newest addition to the Sunshine Coast bakery scene to your list. The biggest issue your going to have is deciding what to order.

A massive thanks to Rod, Amanda and all the staff for there incredible hospitality. I loved every minute of this review and could has spent hours chatting to Rod. It takes a serious set of you know what’s to open up your own business and it’s great to see this amazing couple do so well. All the best guys i will be back.
