Erringhi Bakehouse
(Clarence Town NSW)
May 2025
My short stint up in the Newcastle/Central Coast area had come to a end and it was time to make my way over to the Hunter Valley region. It was going to be a huge week I had locked in 5/6 reviews over the next week or so. I decided to base myself in little community of Clarence Town, which was is beautiful town located about 35 mins north east of Maitland. I didn’t have to travel far for my first review, it was in Clarence Town itself at the recently re-opened and re-formed Erringhi Bakehouse – Clarence Town.
Owners Jarrod and Kez re-opened this bakery just on 12 months ago and have made some significant changes. Jarrod starting baking at the age of 14 then took a 13 year hiatus before him and Kez took a huge gamble with Jarrod returning to baking and the decision to re -opened this place. With the help of the Clarence Town community they stripped this joint, gave it a huge make over and brought this bakery back to life. The cabinets were full and I was itching at the bit to get started.
Jarrod has created a great selection of flavours since the bakery has been re-opened. All of the bakery favourites are here plus a couple of gourmet ones as well. One of those gourmet flavours on the list is “Smokey BBQ Brisket” and that was the one I decided to review.
🥧 THE REVIEW 🥧
1. Value for Money – $9.50 is certainly up there in price, but you need to consider two things. One, brisket isn’t cheap and two this 🥧 weighed in at a healthy 280 grams. This was a big 🥧 and at this weight the $9.50 price tag is more than justified. 9/10
2. Meat/Fill Ratio – As photos will verify this 🥧 was completely full. Great job. 10/10
3. Flavour – The flavour in this 🥧 was devine. The brisket was incredibly tender and the smokey bbq sauce blended in beautifully. If not cooked right brisket can easily dry out, but Jarrod has done a great job with this one. Well done mate, excellent flavour. 9/10
4. Pastry – The color, shape and shrinkage were more than satisfactory. The bottom bake was a little soft but for a heavy 🥧 the stability was really good and held firm right to the last bite. Both bake thicknesses were great as was the bakes. The only negative was the bottom of the 🥧 needed a fraction more time in the oven, apart from that the overall pastry was great. 9/10
5. Serving Temperature – Perfect serving temp 10/10
Overall Rating
🥧🥧 47/50 🥧🥧
Another quality product from a quality baker that knows what he’s doing. Jarrod has done a sterling job with this one. Apart from the bottom bake being slightly underbaked this was a beautiful 🥧. Some 🥧 punters will say $9.50 is high and yes it is, but at 280g this was a decent sized 🥧 and priced accordingly. The flavour was fantastic, the 🥧 was full and this pastry was almost perfect. Great job Jarrod you have done a really good job with this one.
This bakery and this fantastic little town is 100% worth a look. The Williams River Caravan Park is a great little place, facilities are terrific and it’s short stroll into town particularly the pub.
Jarrod and Kez are an incredible couple who have transformed this once struggling bakery into a place locals and passing visitors can pop in, sit down and enjoy quality products and even better service. Every small country town needs a bakery and the community of Clarence Town are extremely lucky to have Jarrod and Kez. What you have achieved here is phenomenal, and you guys should be extremely proud.
