2025 Pyney’s 🥧 Reviews
Review No 51
Creswick Country Bakery
(Creswick VIC)
June 2025
This next review was totally unexpected and they are normally the best ones. The unexpectedly was due to having some issues with the caravans desiel heating system. The last place in winter you want your diesel heater playing up is around the Ballarat area and that’s exactly what happened. After making a few calls, I had to drop the van into the outskirts of Ballarat for the day. So I did just that and decided to take drive to explore the area.
A short distance from Ballarat (18km) is the little town of Creswick. Creswick was a former gold mining town and was the site of the Australia’s worst mining disaster in 1882 in which 22 men drowned. The town is littered with beautiful old historic buildings and of course a legendary bakery.
The Creswick Country Bakery
is located in the main street and is owned and operated by a awesome couple named Mick and Shonel. Both had no idea I was coming in, I literally saw the bakery, walked in and introduced myself. Sadly Mick wasn’t available but Shonel was more then happy to show me around. They took over the bakery in 2006 and then the nearby Beaufort bakery in 2008.
From the moment you walk in your met with absolute class. The interior is stunning and the cabinet display flows and works a treat. There is also a great little seating area inside to escape those cold winter days. The cabinets are filled with all your bakery favourites and so many products caught my eye particularly the 🥧’s. Speaking of 🥧’s I was keen to get over to the warmer and get started.
There is a great variety of flavours on offer and I knew making a decision on what 🥧 to review was going to be difficult. One of the staff mentioned there pepper 🥧 was very popular and had a great little kick to it. I absolutely love pepper 🥧’s and I was particularly keen to see how this one road tested.
🥧 THE REVIEW 🥧
1. Value for Money – $6.90 was really good value as this 🥧 was a fairly decent size in both depth and diameter. Zero issues from my end, this 🥧 was extremely well priced. 9/10
2. Meat/Fill Ratio – Totally full, easy score to adjudicate 10/10
3. Flavour – The flavour in this 🥧 was fantastic. The mince was beautifuly cooked and gee wizz those peppercorns had some serious bite. This wasn’t your normal pepper 🥧 this one had some fire to it which added to the experience. Overall i loved this flavour but be it’s very hot and won’t be for eveyone. 9/10
4. Pastry – This pastry was excellent. From the colour, shape, shrinkage and stability everything was on point and perfect. The color in particular was really good. Both bakes were excellent as was the top and bottom thicknesses. Only negative and this was only small the pastry had sunk a little in the middle, apart from that the pastry was near perfect. 9/10
5. Serving Temperature – Perfect serving temp. No issies at all. 10/10
Overall Rating
🥧🥧 47/50 🥧🥧
This was an incredible product and one I’d have again no questions asked. For me the flavour was the best part closely followed by the pastry. I’m going to say this was the hottest 🔥 pepper 🥧 I have ever had. It’s not going to be for everyone, but if you do love your pepper flavored 🥧’s hotter than normal, then your going to froth on this one. Also the 🥧 was full and priced well. The team have done a wonderful job and I will certainly remember this particular 🥧 for a very long time.
This bakery is a little ripper and I’m assuming the Beaufort location is no different. 100% add this bakery and this epic little town to your travel plans. There’s heaps of room in town to pull up particularly with a caravan and explore.
A huge thanks to Mick and Shonel for having me in. This was a impromptu visit at it’s very best and yet the team were all so inviting and took the time out to show me around. These guys have done an incredible job since taking over and are involved in a lot of community events particularly local football. It’s a shame I didn’t get to meet Mick, it just means I’ve gotta pop in next time I’m in the area and have a coldie. All the best guys your doing a bloody awesome job.
As always thanks for the ongoing support and keep supporting 🇦🇺 bakeries and don’t forget to invite all your friends to the page.
