Cloncurry Bakery – Cloncurry QLD

Cloncurry Bakery

The 🥧 tour continued on and after exploring Hughenden and Julia Creek we kept moving further west towards the NT border. The next bakery on my hit list was the Cloncurry Bakery . I have smashed a few 🥧’s at this joint over the past few years, but never actually posted a review.

We didn’t have a lot of time in town, so this was a hit and run mission, so sadly I didn’t get a chance to meet any of the owners or staff while I was there. The bakery itself is located on Scarr Street around the main centre of town and is open 6 days a week.

The bakery itself is quite large and had plenty of room to sit inside and escape to hot summer days or cold winter mornings. The one thing that stood out was the impressive cabinet display. There was a terrific variety of goodies on offer and everything looked amazing. The morning we were there it was very busy, bustling with locals and passing tourists.

Speaking of variety there was about 8 or 9 🥧 flavours to choose from which made this weeks choice somewhat difficult.
In the end I went with the bacon and cheese. It’s been a while since I’ve reviewd one of these particular flavoured 🥧’s so I was keen to rip in.

🥧 THE REVIEW 🥧

1. Value for Money – $5.50 represented excellent value. Depth and diameter were both superb. Zero complaints with the price department here. 10/10

2. Meat Ratio – Really good to be honest. Yes there was a fair bit of gravy sauce in this 🥧, but the 🥧 itself was almost full. Once again no complaints here. 9/10

3. Flavour – The flavour was a bit hit and miss. There was truck loads of bacon in this 🥧 and you could taste multiple pieces with every bite taken, but sadly there wasn’t enough meat/mince. There was more gravy and bacon in this 🥧 then mince. However the flavour itself was quite nice, particularly the bacon. Overall not bad but needed more meat. 7/10

4. Pastry – A mixed bag here as well. Photos will show the color, shape, shrinkage were all almost perfect. The stability was also great and the 🥧 didnt move a muscle. The color in particular was a standout it was first class. The top bake was quite good, but the sides and bottom bakes were too thick. The pastry flavour was ok, but the was a little doughie when chewing through. 7/10

5. Serving Temperature – Zero issues !!!! Perfect temp 10/10

Overall Rating
🥧🥧 43/50 🥧🥧

Apart from a few blemishes here and there this was a nice 🥧. The price tag of $5.50 was insanely cheap and the 🥧 was almost full which represented great value. The temperature was also spot on, meaning there was no wait time to get stuck into this bad boy. The 🥧 lacked meat in my opinion and the gravy ratio out weighed the meat ratio. The pasty thickness was also a issue but this can easily be fixed or could have been a once off. Overall I would have no issues recommending this 🥧 to any punter out there. Great job guys.

As mentioned earlier I didn’t get to meet the team but hopefully catch up on our way back through next month. This bakery is a busy little joint and is 100% worth visiting. There is plenty of room in the side streets of town etc for caravan access and parking. This bakery and the town of Cloncurry is a little ripper and once again didn’t disappoint.

Thanks to Wiki Camps we found a couple of cracking littl free camps. Mary Kathleen Town and Camooweal Billabong were the 2 places we stayed at. These are 2 places that are well worth the stop in. Mary Kathleen has an amazing story behind his camp and the old mine is 100% worth checking out.
