Cake Me Up

Before I start posting a stack of Canberra bakery reviews, I had more more place to visit in Sydney. I was on my way into the city to a visit a gluten free bakery. Whilst I was stopped at the traffic lights I saw a place called
Cake Me Up with a sign saying “Home Made 🥧’s” Never to let a opportunity go by, I made the little detour pulled the car up walked in and introduced myself.
Cake Me Up is owned and operated by a lady named Veronica and gee this lady can cook. Situated at 65 Waterloo Street at Narrabeen this place is a little cafe/coffee shop and 100% everything in the place is made from scratch and on site.
Originally from the Czech Republic Veronica learnt to cook from her family and opened this place about 4 years ago. Veronica’s real passion is cakes and OMG her instagram page is filled with some of the most complex and stunning birthday cakes I’ve ever seen, but baking 🥧’s is where it’s at and from the moment I walked into the cafe I couldn’t take my eyes off the 🥧 warmer.
The cafe only has 3 flavours to choose from and to be honest they all looked sensational. It was the “Chicken Mushroon and Spinich” that won out in and end and gee wizz it smelt incredible.
🥧 THE REVIEW 🥧
1. Value for Money – Yes $9.50 is 100% up there, but the shape and the size of this 🥧 was very unusual. It was a fairly decent sized 🥧 too and weighed in a decent size. Normally I’d be able to put away two or three 🥧’s, but I was full after smashing this one. 8/10
2. Meat Ratio – I’d say about 95% full and I’m probably being a little hard on this score. There were the odd air pocket here and there but overall this 🥧 was a smidge off being full 9.5/10
3. Flavour – Seriously amazing !!! The flavour in this 🥧 was up there with the best I’ve had. The chicken pieces were great as was the fresh mushrooons and spinich. The creamy sauce was stunning and complemented this 🥧 so well. Every bite just got better and better and I absolutely loved this flavour. Awesome job 10/10
4. Pastry – This was a combination of short crust and puff this pastry had everything and more. The color, stability, bakes were all perfect and the pastry taste was spot on. Couldn’t ask for anything more. 10/10
5. Serving Temperature – Perfect temp 10/10

This was a near perfect 🥧 !! The flavour and pastry were the clear standouts and the unique shape of this 🥧 made it ever better. For a heavy 🥧 I was quite surprised about the stability as it didn’t move a muscle. The price tag is creeping up there and after having one of these bad boys you would be more than happy to pay the $9.50 price tag. This was a stunning 🥧 and Veronica has 100% nailed this. Epic job.
This is a cute little cafe and as mentioned earlier Veronica is ine hell of a cook. Everything in her cafe is cooked with love and looked spectacular. This was a sensational little find and I’m so glad I stumbled across this 🥧 joint. A massive thanks to Veronica for her hospitality. It would be very daunting for a stranger to rock in and ask to review your 🥧’s and Veronica took it all in her stride. 100% add this place to your 🥧 plans you won’t be disappointed.
