Cake Bake Brew

With the Rockhampton and Yeppoon reviews knocked over it was time to head further south to the Hervey Bay region. The purpose of my visit had two reasons, the first was the catch up and spend time with family and the second was to visit a few bakeries in the area. One of those bakeries was Cake Bake Brew.
Cake Bake Brew is located in Hunter Street Pialba in on the RSL side of the the Coles Shopping Complex. As you approach the entrance you will be greeted by one very impressive cabinet display. While only small every bakery product you could as for is here and looks fantastic.
Owners Josh and Amanda have had this place for over 7 years employing over 6 staff. Josh’s 🥧 journey started with him doing his apprenticeship then working in the mines as a safety officer then returning to the baking trade.
The day of my visit the crew where totally rushed of their feet so after getting the brief tour it was time to get over to the 🥧 warmer and get cracking.
The selection of 🥧’s on offer is fantastic and gee wiz making a decision wasn’t going to be easy. As mentioned earlier I’ve got family in Hervey Bay and was told to give the “Steak n Bacon 🥧” a go. While only simple i was told its a little beauty and worth having a crack.
🥧 THE REVIEW 🥧
1. Value for Money – $6.50 was very good value. The 🥧 was a generous size in both depth and diameter. Yes the ingredients are very basic but $6.50 is still good value and very affordable. 8.5/10
2. Meat/Fill Ratio – Totally full and no room at all for more. Great job !!! 10/10
3. Flavour – Loved it !!! A combination of mince and chunky steak, added bacon and dark gravy sauce. The meat was cooked well and you could taste the bacon with every bite. The dark gravy sauce really added extra flavour to this 🥧. Great job guys. 9/10
4. Pastry – Like the flavour the pastry quality was very good. Only negatives were the top pastry was slightly thick and a smidge too thick and there was shrinkage on the top bake. These negatives were only minor and nothing that cannot be tweaked. The positives far outweighed the negatives !!! The color, shape and stability was perfect. The bottom bake and thickness was also perfect as was the pastry flavor. The top was golden, flakey and tasted sensational. 8/10
5. Serving Temperature – A little on the hot side but nothing major. 9.5/10

This overall product was terrific and I would have no hesitation smashing another one. For me the flavour was the best part and the 🥧 was completely full. The dark gravy sauce really added to to the overall flavour, plus the $6.50 price tag was spot on and more than affordable. The pastry had a few minor points to work on but nothing serious. Great work Josh I really enjoyed this pie and I love the flavour of your Godfather 🥧. Add this gem to your little black book it’s a cracker and you won’t be disappointed.
Amanda and Josh are absolute legends and I cannot thank them enough for their time and hospitality. They were extremely busy the day of my visit and yet that was so accommodating. These guys run a terrific business and I wish them all the best.
