After spending the morning at Nabiac it was time to hit the road and drive the short hour trip down to the little town of Bulahdelah. I have been to the little place a couple of times but never actually stopped in at the famous Bulahdelah Bakery. With that in mind I was super keen to get into town meet the team and smash one of their 🥧’s.

The bakery itself is located on Stroud Street in the centre of town and is open 7 days a week. This year will see owners Sammy and Chantelle chalk up 20 years at the helm.

Another really small bakery in size but the cabinets are jammed packed with every possible product you could ask for. Sammy took me for a tour of the engine room out the back and gee that was impressive, heaps of work space for the boys to pump out all these glorious products. Sadly it was really busy the day of my visit and Sammy and Chantelle didn’t have a lot of time so we needed to get a wriggle on with this review.

Not a massive list to choose from but still more than acceptable with nine different flavours on offer. I had no idea what 🥧 I was going to choose, so I went out the front to chat to a few locals. All mentioned that I needed to give the plain beef a go. As soon as the 🥧 came out of the oven I knew I made the right decision.

🥧 THE REVIEW 🥧

1. Value for Money – $6.50 for a plain meat 🥧 is creeping up there in price compared to others I’ve recently reviewed. The 🥧 was your usual standard size in depth and diameter as well. 7/10

2. Meat Ratio – Very impressive !!! The 🥧 was completely full and nothing more could have been squeezed in. 10/10

3. Flavour – I couldn’t fault the flavour of this 🥧. The meat pieces were a decent size and they were cooked beautifully. The dark gravy sauce was particularly good which added to the overall flavour of this 🥧. Great job guys, this flavour was really good 8.5/10

4. Pastry – The pastry of this 🥧 was very impressive. The color was incredible, shrinkage was minimal, puff was excellent and the shape was perfect. Only negatives was the top bake was a touch too thick and probably a minute or two underbaked. Apart from these minor issues the pastry was perfect. 8.5/10

5. Serving Temperature – Perfect !!! Nothing to worry about at all 10/10

This was a quality product and one that tasted pretty damm good. The scores were very consisted right across the board. The first thing that I saw was the color of this 🥧 !!! Gee it was impressive and the pastry tasted magnificent. Although it was only a plain 🥧 the flavour was really good and the mince was the highest quality and tasted terrific. The 🥧 was completely full which was another bonus. Overall Sammy and this team have done a sterling job with this 🥧. Great job guys.

This bakery and the town of Bulahdelah is 100% worth the stop in. The bakery itself can get crazy busy and both times I’ve driven past the line up has been out of control. The golf club was a great overnight stay. Plenty of room to park up and for all the golf tragics out there the course was excellent.
