Pyney’s 🥧 Reviews
Bucks Country Bakehouse
(Yarck VIC)

This next review is one I was pretty excited to type up and finally post out to you all. On my last trip to Victoria I was given a tip on a bakery called Bucks Country Bakehouse
at Yarck. My first response was “Where the Fark is Yarck” My initial reaction was puzzlement as to the location, and amusingly, this response has become closely associated with the bakery.

Yarck is a blink and you will miss it town situated in the upper Goulburn Valley region of Victoria. It’s 166 kilometres north east of the Melbourne and the bakery was opened in 2014. The bakeries position sits on the old “Tea Rooms Of Yarck” site and is family run and owned. Barney, wife Dianne and children Will and Lauren all chip in to run this iconic country bakery. Given it’s located getting staff has been challenging and the bakery is only open Friday through to Monday. If closed, no stress the bakery has two state of the art 🥧 ATM’s out the front to assist locals and passing travelers.

Barney is the everywhere man and has done just about everything throughout his working career. His 🥧journey started as a young boy in his uncle‘s bakery and South Australia. After that he had many other jobs that included a stint at Lindsay Park Stud before returning to the baking industry many years later and eventually opening up the new bakery in Yarck.

This place isn’t just a bakery, It’s an experience. From the moment you walk in the joint your eyes will be looking everywhere and it’s very different to most bakeries. The selection of frozen 🥧’s and other items is massive, the list also includes a generous selection of gluten-free products. After that, there is a massive selection of merchandise that is pretty awesome, then the line flows into the bakery area and the cabinets are fillled with every bakery item imaginable. One thing I noticed about the products they were big, the muffins were huge, the vanilla slices were huge, in fact everything sold here is on the large scale. The last and best cabinet along the line was the 🥧’s and I was eager to get started.

The selection on offer here is absolutely massive with so many flavours available, It’s hard to keep count. There’s the old and the new, but for this review I wanted to try Dianne’s famous “Pepper Steak” I was told this was a 🔥er than normal pepper flavoured 🥧 and I was super keen to give it a go.

🥧 THE REVIEW 🥧

1. Value for Money – $8.50 is getting up there for a “Pepper Steak” 🥧 but it was a very generous size in both depth and diameter. Also the 🥧 was totally jammed packed full. Overall more than acceptable value 7.5/10

2. Meat/Fill Ratio – As mentioned above this 🥧 was totally full. Excellent value 10/10

3. Flavour – The flavour was absolutely awesome. The shredded meat tasted fantastic and was cooked perfectly. Be warned the peppercorns were plentyful and up there with the hottest I’ve tasted and I wasn’t fazed one bit. Not much more to say but a beautifully flavoured 🥧. 10/10

4. Pastry – Overal the pastry of this 🥧 was very good. Colour, shape, stability were all very good. There was a little shrinkage on the top bake which is clearly evident in the pictures. I love the lamination on the top bake, it looked sensational and tasted fantastic. The bottom bake thickness was spot on, however the bake was a smidge underbaked. A few things to work on and things that are easily fixed, fantastic job guys. 8.5/10

5. Serving Temperature – Perfect serving temp !!! 10/10

Overall Rating
🥧🥧 46/50 🥧🥧

This was a fantastic 🥧 and one I frothed on. Yes, i’m not gonna lie those peppercorns were up there with the hottest I’ve had, but that didn’t matter I loved the flavour in this 🥧. The 🥧 was totally full and the pastry was close to perfect as well. $8.50 is creeping up there, but on a positive note the 🥧 was totally full. Dianne’s pepper steak receiple is spot on, Barney has executed this reciepe perfectly and overall the team has done a wonderful job with this 🥧, well done guys loved it. This was up there with the best pepper steak 🥧’s I’ve had.

This bakery should be on everyone’s travel plans, but just time you run perfectly as the place is only open 4 days a week. There is heaps of parking, gluten free options and when your asked “Where is Fark is Yarck” you will know the answer. 100% recommended.

To Barney, Dianne, Will and Lauren I cannot, thank you enough for your time, hospitality, and allowing me to share your families, incredible 🥧 journey. This 🥧 journey has had plenty of ups and downs and you guys deserve every success that comes your way. The community of Yarck and passing tourists are so privileged to have such a fantastic bakery at there disposal. You run a quality operation but more importantly you all are quality humans. Thanks for having me in and I will 100% be back.

As always thanks for the ongoing support and keep supporting 🇦🇺 bakeries and don’t forget to invite all your friends to the page.
