2025 Pyney’s 🥧 Reviews
Review No 22
Bredbo Inn Hotel
(Bredbo NSW)

Feb 2024

The best part about what I do is getting to meet exceptional people along the journey. This review solely came about from a recommendation from a fellow 🥧 lover. Corey from Capital Signs reached out and told me I’ve gotta get myself down to the Bredbo that’s right Bredbo not Thredbo. He said there was a ripping country pub down there that makes wicked homemade 🥧’s.

He flicked me the publicans number and I was on my way.
The Historic Bredbo Inn was established way back in 1836. Legend has it Charlie McKeahnie one of the inspirations behind the poem “The Man From Snowy River” died out the back of this pub in 1895. Owners Matt and Raquel have been here for the last 8 years and when they arrived they introduced homemade 🥧’s to the menu.

For a little country pub the selection on offer here really surprised me. From all the usual bakery classics to a few gourmet flavours thrown in as well. The variety on the menu will cater for everyone. There was one flavour that caught my eye and that was a “slow cooked beef and dark ale”. I’ve had a few 🍺 flavoured 🥧’s before and they have all been fantastic, so I was keen to see how this particular one would road test.

🥧 THE REVIEW 🥧

1. Value for Money – $9.50 is certainly getting up there but this was a really heavy 🥧, it was totally full and I was sitting in a pub. Also this was a homemade 🥧 not something bought in and resold. Lastly after eating one you would be pretty full. Overall good value for pub grub feed. 8/10

2. Meat/Fill Ratio – Totally full, if anything I thought it was about to burst out at one stage. Great job guys, a really full 🥧. 10/10

3. Flavour – The flavour in this 🥧 really surprised me. Soaked in Tooheys Old Dark Ale, the huge chunks of beef are then slow cooked for about 20 hours. Then add in onion, pepper, garlic and gravy, and you’ve got a beautiful flavoured 🥧. The meat was absolutely stunning and you could 100% taste the dark ale. Great job guys, excellently flavoured 🥧. 9/10

4. Pastry – The pastry also surprised me and in a good way. For a heavy 🥧 and a relatively soft base, the stability held up really good. The shape and color were also more than acceptable and I particularly liked the nice golden color on the top of this 🥧. Both the top and bottom bake thicknesses were very good as were the bakes. Only real negative was that the bottom and sides were a little soft and that’s most likely from the aluminum tin tray it was cooked in. Apart from this minor issue the pastry was very good. 8.5/10

5. Serving Temperature – Excellent serving temp. Straight out of the oven into the mouth. 10/10

Overall Rating
🥧🥧 45.5/50 🥧🥧

This was an awesome product and Jacob has done a wonderful job with this 🥧. To be honest there wasn’t much wrong with this 🥧 only a few minor and I mean minor tweaks needed. Yeah the price is up there, but you pay for what you get and what your’re getting here is a decent size tastie feed. The flavour was terrific and best part was you could really taste and smell the dark Toohey’s ale. Great job team, this flavour rocked !!!

Open 7 days a week this is one 🇦🇺 pub that you 100% wanna stop in at. Also it’s got a great big area out the back for free camping which is ideal for the caravaners on the road (on wiki maps) So the next time your passing down this way, take the time to drop in and say G’day, try a 🥧 and meet the team.

A massive thanks to Matt, Raquel, Jacob and the dogs for having me in. This review was so much fun, combining the two things in life I love 🥧’s and 🍺’s. The idea of owning a pub sounds great, but it’s a lot of hard work, time and effort, and these guys have done a terrific job since taking over eight years ago. This is a fair dinkum 🇦🇺 pub and to be able to get sensational homemade 🥧’s makes the experience even better. Well done guys keep up the amazing work and you will 100% see me again.
