Barcaldine Bakery

(Barcaldine QLD)

July, 2026

After leaving Tambo we made our way further north and stopped in to the beautiful town of Barcaldine. I went to school here back in the late 80’s and I also did a 🥧 review at “Satisfaction Bakery” back in 2021. Sadly that bakery has since closed, but the other bakery in town Barcaldine Bakery is still here and going strong so I wanted to check it out while I was in town.

The Barcaldine Bakery has been around for many years and is now owned and operated by the local “Rowland” family. Prior to taking over the family had absolutely no baking experience what so ever. Marty and Ann are local cattle farmers and when the bakery became available 3 years ago they jumped at the opportunity and haven’t looked back.

Ann with the help of 14 local staff rum and operate the bakery, while Marty continues to run the farm. The farm also supplies all the meat to the bakery so you know your getting quality inside those delicious products. The bakery is open 7 days and is positioned right in the centre of town.

The morning of my visit was school holidays and also crazy busy. Unfortunately I didn’t get a chance to meet Ann, but I did reach out after my visit and we had a awesome chin wag.

Ann and her team have created a epic little menu with 12 flavours available. Obviously these flavours depend on availability and are subject to change, so bare that in mind. After chatting to a few punters out the front, i decided to run with the “Pepper 🥧”

🥧 THE REVIEW 🥧

1. Value for Money – $7 represented pretty good value for 🥧 of the size. The depth and diameter were very acceptable. Any 🥧 priced in the early seven dollar range is well priced. 8.5/10

2. Meat/Fill Ratio – Totally full !!! Nothing more to say. 10/10

3. Flavour – From the first bite to the last the flavour was extremely consistent. The beef mince was beautiful and the while the cracked pepper had a little kick, it certainly won’t scare you away. Overall a really solid flavoured 🥧. 7/10

4. Pastry – The top pastry had a really nice color to it and had limited shrinkage. The bottom color was a smidge pale in color but nothing to get excited about. The top bake was really well presented the lamination and layers were excellent. The bottom was baked right through and the overall pastry flavour was really nice. In my opinion the team has done a pretty good job with this pastry 8.5/10

5. Serving Temperature – Perfect temp !!! 10/10

Overall Rating

🥧🥧 44/50 🥧🥧

Ann and her baking team have done a wonderful job with this product and it totally surprise me. To find a quality 🥧 like this one in country QLD was a real bonus. This is a true working class 🥧 and one I would easily have again. The $7 price tag was well priced, the 🥧 was full, the flavour very solid as was the pastry. The top bake in particular was fantastic and was incredibly flakey. Well done team highly recommended.

A huge thumbs up to the Rowland family for taking the punt on this country bakery. These little towns and communities need bakeries and the town of Barky is so lucky have a quality bakery like this one. As already mentioned I didn’t get to meet Ann, but I absolutely love this town and will definitely be back again. Keep up the outstanding work Ann your doing a sterling job.

Barcaldine is a beautiful little town that’s 100% worth exploring. There is plenty too see and explore, plus there is ample parking in the main street for caravans. Also the nearby town of Aramac and sculpture trail is awesome so add that to your list. Lastly a huge congrats to the “Sand Goanna’s” who took out last weekend’s rugby league grand final, awesome effort lads.

As always thanks for the ongoing support and keep supporting 🇦🇺 bakeries and don’t forget to invite all your friends to the page.
