Andy’s Bakery
(Millicent SA)
February, 2026
A couple of days r & r at Carpenter Rocks was just what the doctor ordered. It’s been a hetic tour so far and chilling out in this beautiful part of the world was perfect. After leaving our camp site we only had a short drive up to the small town of Millicent.
Millicent is located about 399 kilometres south-east of Adelaide and about 50km north of Mount Gambier. On the Limestone Millicent is renowned for its rich history and natural beauty. I was in town for a short stop to meet up with owner Donald the owner of Andys Bakery.
Andy’s bakery is located in Davenport Street in the centre of town. Donald has been baking many many years and has been this bakery since day dot, 39 years ago to be precise. Then in 2013, the opportunity came up and Donald purchased the bakery in his own right.
The bakery itself is quite big and is another example of a old school bakehouse. From fresh bread to glorious 🥧’s to SA’s famous kitchener bun’s the cabinets are full with freshly baked items. There is also an adjoining coffee shop that is run by Donald’s daughter. Those cabinets are also full with specialty cakes and other sweet treats. As always my focus was on the 🥧’s and it made our way over to the menu board to get started.
Donald and his team have assembled an outstanding menu board. The board is full with a huge assortment of traditional and gourmet flavours. After staring at the board for what seemed like an eternity I narrowed my search down to two flavours “Mexican Chicken” or “Cheesburger” in the end I went with the Cheeseburger 🥧.
🥧 THE REVIEW 🥧
1. Value for Money – $6.50 is fantasic value in my opinion as this was a decent sized 🥧 and weighed in around the 250 gram mark. This was a fairly easy score to adjudicate, great valued 🥧 9/10
2. Meat/Fill Ratio – Totally full. Simple as that 10/10
3 Flavour – As far as cheeseburgers 🥧’s go, this flavour was certainly up there. Mince, cheese, pickles, mustard and tomato sauce. Nothing fancy but highly effective. Not much more to say, except a great flavoured 🥧 8.5/10
4. Pastry – Another 🥧 where the pastry was well put together. Great colour, zero shrinkage and as always most importantly the stability was on song. The shape was almost perfect apart from a little bit on one side. The pastry flavour and texture was also really nice and tasted great. Only issue and this was minor, was both bakes were a little too thick and the top bake was slightly underdone. This could have been a once off and it’s also something that is easily fixed. Overall the team has done a pretty good job on this pastry, well done 8/10
5. Serving Temperature – Perfect serving temp 10/10
Overall Rating
🥧🥧 45.5/50 🥧🥧
As already mentioned this was a really good flavored cheese-burger 🥧 and one I’d easily have again. To be honest their wasn’t much wrong with this product. The $6.50 price tag was great value, the 🥧 was full, while the pastry and flavour was excellent. Speaking of the flavour it was easily my favourite part of this experience. Overall Donald and his team have done a wonderful with this one. Highly recommended. The Mexican Chicken 🥧 was a little ripper as well. Grab one of those bad boys.
100% add this bakery to your travel plans. There is plenty of parking close by especially if your towing a caravan. The attached coffee shop has plenty of seating to sit and relax making this an ideal spot to meet up with friends.
Donald your an absolute legend !!! Thank you so much for arranging to see me on short notice. Only two week prior to my visit, Donald had to be air lifted by the royal flying doctor service to Adelaide for major surgery and he’s very lucky to be with us. Donald you run a fantasic bakery mate and your products speak for themselves. Your a ripping fella and your well respected by your staff and the local community. All the best mate, see you on my next visit.
As always thanks for the ongoing support and keep supporting 🇦🇺 bakeries and don’t forget to invite all your friends to the page.
