The second northern beaches review saw me head out to the suburb of Allambie Heights. If your not familiar with that area it’s close to Dee Why, Curl Curl and Brookvale. It’s a awesome area and I was on my way to Allambie Pies
Owner Jason is a 🥧 veteran and a 5th generation baker. With over 40 plus years of experience, Jason’s first memory was a 4 year old sitting on a sack of flour in the family bakery. As a 8 year old, he was topping 🥧’s , then by 13 or 14 Jason and brother Anthony were doing the weekend shifts in the family run business. The families 🥧 journey started way back in 1908 which is pretty incredible and isn’t showing signs of slowing down.
Allambie Pies is located at 141 Allambie Road. Open 7 days a week, Jason has been here for over 7 years with the help of daughter Taylah and 15 other staff. The bakery has a real beach theme to it and the interior and exterior is decorated beautifully. Once inside the cabinet display is excellent totally filled with a huge assortment of fresh
baked goods. As always my mind was firmly on the 🥧’s keen to get cracking.
Jason and his team have created a sensational menu with all the old school favourites combined with some exotic gourmet flavours and all of them looked fabulous. After looking at the board i wanted to give the “Pepper Steak with Cream Sauce” a go. I love my pepper falvoured 🥧’s but never had one with a creamy sauce.
🥧 THE REVIEW 🥧
1. Value for Money – $9.80 is certainly on the high end of the scale, but it seems to be the average price for a 🥧 on the northern beaches. All the bakeries I’ve reviewed over this way have ranged from $8.50 to $10. This 🥧 was weighed in at a healthy 275 grams and was jammed backed with meat. Also the 🥧 looked like a carnival tent and was a fairly decent size. Pretty good value and compatible to other bakeries and 🥧 shops in the area. 8/10
2. Meat/Fill Ratio – This 🥧 was totally full as you would expect. The top pastry was quite high and while the pics may indicate a air pocket here and there, trust me this 🥧 was full. 10/10
3. Flavour – OMG the flavour in this bad boy was out of control. The meat chunks were beautifully cooked and a massive size. The peppercorns could be tasted with every bite, and the creamy sauce was an absolute masterstroke. The flavour got better and better with every bite. We done team this was a perfecty flavoured 10/10
4. Pastry – The overall pastry was very good with only a couple of minor points to work on. The color, shape, shrinkage and stability were all excellent. When tipped on it’s axis, the 🥧 didn’t move a bit. The pastry flavour was also superb. Both bake thicknesses were really good, with the only negative being slight wet lines on both the top and bottom bakes l, which pics will show. Apart from that minor issue the pastry was faultless. Well done team. 9/10
5. Serving Temperature – Perfect serving temp !!! 10/10

Another excellent product from another quality 🥧 maker. This isn’t Jason’s first rodeo and his products show that. The work that goes into every 🥧 is amazing and I was lucky to see this first hand. The flavour for me was the standout, that creamy sauce was beautiful and made the 🥧 what it was. The pastry was almost there and the 🥧 was full. Some 🥧 punters will baulk at the price, but your getting absolute quality here and that’s worth something. Jason you and your team have nailed this 🥧 and I absolutely have zero hesitation recommending it to anyone. Well done team.
Another legendary 🥧 joint to add to your 🥧 list. The place has a terrific vibe and 100% worth visiting. I also smashed the “Mexican” 🥧 which was sensational and the special Christmas Turkey 🥧 which was insane.
Jason you and your family are a true icons of this industry. I cannot thank you enough for coming back to me on such short notice and allowing me to share your 🥧journey. You a quality operator, running a quality operation and you deserve every success that comes your way. Your passion for this industry even after 40 years is quite remarkable. Only negative is your a tragic Manly supporter, but I won’t hold that against you. See you next time I’m on the Northern Beaches.
