The Brooky Pie

(Brookvale NSW)

May, 2026

With the upcoming Food and Hospitality Trade Show I decided to stay around Sydney for the next week and visit a few local bakeries and 🥧 shops. I mainly concentrated on the Northern Beaches area. I have visited quite a few bakeries and 🥧 shops around the northern beaches, but have missed the odd one here and there. One of these is the brooky pie located on Pittwater Road Brookvale.

This is Sea Eagle territory through and through and the bakery is a short stroll from the famous Brookvale Oval. The bakery has been open since 1990, and current owner Eddy has been here for just over 7 years.

Open 6 days a week (mon – sat) the bakery is small but extremely well presented. The place is spotless, has indoor seating and a impeccable cabinet display. The walls are decorated with pictures dating back to the shops early days and paying homage to the founding owners and that was pretty awesome to see. After chatting to a couple of fellow 🥧 punters in the shop it was time to get started and check out the menu.

There is a huge selection of flavours on offer and it’s a menu that will cater for everyone. The range is quite impressive and choosing a 🥧 was going to be difficult. After having a quick glance one flavour that caught my attention straight away and that was the “Beef Rendang” I have reviewed a few of these over my journey’s but it’s been quite some time ago and this one looked too good to pass up.

🥧 THE REVIEW 🥧

1. Value for Money – I’m not going to sugar coat this $10.50 is up there in price, but this seems to be the standard price for 🥧’s on the northern beaches of Sydney. This 🥧 was a healthy 250 grams which is above industry standard. Overall still reasonable value for what you get. 7.5/10

2. Meat/Fill Ratio – About 90% full. The top bake has sunk in the middle, therefore and a smidge more could have need added 9/10

3. Flavour – Really good !! Slow cooked beef, potato’s, rendang curry and a variety of authentic mixed spices. The beef was incredibly tender and the amount of potato’s was perfect. The rendang curry is mild and will suit every curry lover. Only suggestion in my opinion is to thicken up the curry a smidge as it was a little runny. Overall well done Eddy, I really enjoyed the flavour 8/10

4. Pastry – A few things to work on which Eddy acknowledged. The color was great, as was the shape, plus there was minimal

shrinkage. The top bake while baked right through had sunk in the middle and pics will show this. The bottom bake and sides was soft and moist, most likely caused by sitting in the aluminum tin. This affected the stability/structure and eating this bad boy was a little tricky 6.5/10

5. Serving Temperature – Perfect serving temp, zero issues here 10/10

Overall Rating

🥧🥧 41/50 🥧🥧

Overall this was a solid product and one I would certainly have again. Really it was the bottom bake/sides that effected the pastry score. Yes $10.50 is 100% up there in price, but after visiting many bakeries this figure is around the norm for 🥧’s in and around the northern beaches of Sydney. The 🥧 was almost full and the serving temp was post on. The flavour was my favourite part. There’s something about “Rendang” curry and this one was really good. The top bake had sunk in the middle and the bottom bake also needs tweaking. The aluminum tins are making the bottom and sides sweaty, soft and this is making the stability structional integrity a little tricky. This is a easy fix which Eddy is all over. I’m glad I chose this particular flavour and as far a flavoured “Rendang” 🥧’s go this was a little ripper.

This is another 🥧 shop to add to your list. The menu is extensive, the products are fabulous and your supporting another cracking small business.

A massive thanks to Eddy for having me in, what a absolute legend. He’s kicked some serious goals since taking over and it’s been through sheer hard work. After all these years in the baking game Eddy still wants to improve his products and be the best. Throughout the review he was asking questions and taking advice and that’s what these reviews are about. It was great to meet you mate and I’m looking forward to coming back next time I’m in the area.

As always thanks for the ongoing support and keep supporting 🇦🇺 bakeries and don’t forget to invite all your friends to the page.
