Orange Spot Bakery

(Glenelg SA)

March, 2026

If you haven’t spent time on the Fleurieu Peninsula your missing out. This whole area is so special and a must see. I’ve now done this area a few times and most definitely will be back again. After leaving the Peninsula we made our way to Adelaide for a few days, as I had a few commitments to attend to. I also wanted to visit a few bakeries around the area and one of those was the famous Orange Spot Bakery in Glenelg.

Glenelg is a beach-side suburb of the South Australiancapital of Adelaide. Located on the shore of Holdfast Bay in Gulf St Vincent. The bakery itself is located on 750 -752 Anzac Highway and has been open since 1949.

Current owner Nick has had the place for over 20 years and is a icon of the industry. The place is open every day except Christmas Day and employs over 20 staff. Operations Manager Mark runs the show and runs a awesome ship. With many years baking experience himself Marks passion for this bakery and the industry is infectious.

Inside the bakery is spacious and has a wonderful cabinet display. It’s also has a huge indoor seating area and a trophy room fit for a king. This award winning bakery has won just about every award in the industry and after checking out the place I couldn’t wait to get started.

Another bakery with an impressive menu list that’s will cater for nearly everyone. Plain, traditional, even gourmet 🥧’s choosing one to review was going to be difficult. When in doubt I always go back to my old favourite “Chunky Peoper” and from what I’ve been told their one is a little beauty.

🥧 THE REVIEW 🥧

1. Value for Money – $7.20 may seem high to a few, but in my opinion, it’s still very good value. This one was a decent size in depth and diameter and it was totally full. 8.5/10

2. Meat/Fill Ratio – Completlely full 10/10

3. Flavour – The flavour was delicious. Slow cooked beef, capsicum, pepper corns, pepper seasoning with a dark gravy sauce. The red capsicum was very different but it totally worked, it added some real extra flavour to this 🥧. The meat was cooked beautifully and the peppercorns had a little sting to it. Overall a wonderful flavouring and one I thoroughly enjoyed. 9/10

4. Pastry – The overall pastry of this 🥧 was pretty damm good. The color was golden, the shape was excellent, hardly any shrinkage and the stability was perfect. Both bakes were just about there as was both bake thicknesses. The pastry flavor itself was really good. Great job team. 9/10

5. Serving Temperature – Perfect serving temp, zero issues here 10/10

Overall Rating

🥧🥧 46.5/50 🥧🥧

Quality product from a quality bakery. This was a bloody awesome pepper flavoured 🥧 and the added red capsicum was sensational. The price was great, the meat fill ratio was perfect, the serving temperature was on song and the pastry was delicious. I love pepper 🥧’s and this one was beautiful. Nick, Mark and the team have all done a sterling job with this one and I would have no hesitation having a another one. 100% add this epic bakery to your list. Your going to love the awarding pasties, the award winning sausage rolls and of course the board winning 🥧’s.

A huge shoutout to Mark and the rest of the team for having me in. This bakery has been on my list for such a long time and it didn’t disappoint. As mentioned earlier the awards this bakery has won is endless and the list continues to grow. Nick & Mark have assembled an A team that pump out and produce outstanding products. If you haven’t visited this joint yet your certainly missing out. All the best Mark and I’m looking forward to seeing you in a few months at the trade show.

Glenelg is a sensational place and only a short distance from Adelaide. Apart from this epic bakery, the food and bar scene is fantastic and the accommodation options are endless. Highly recommended.
